Hey guys,
I have a 2019 GMC 2500 Duramax with 48,000 miles on it. I was asked the other day what type of fuel additive I have been using.
Well, I have never used an additive. My question is Should I? Do you? If so then which one do you recommend?

Thanks in advance for your comments.

On Duramax number 4. Never used a fuel additive. Only considered it on my 2016 due to the CP4 fuel system which went away in 2017. I’d consider some anti gel if I lived somewhere that routinely saw temps below zero, but that’s about it.

Buy fuel from name brand stations that sell a lot of diesel. Drive the truck. That’s been my formula and it’s worked…so far. Someone with more knowledgeable may have a more informed opinion, but this has worked for me.

Thank you. I use Loves almost exclusively as I have one near home. I'm in central California so we don't know about below zero. :)

I was a GM engine engineer for many years. We never used additives in any of our testing and I don't use it in my Duramax. Txloser's advice is perfect and what I do. Fortunately, GM switched to a Denso fuel pump in 2017 so fuel pump lubrication is not as critical.

I have a 2019 Silverado 3500 Duramax with about 116,000 miles. I have never used an additive or anti gel, and it gets cold here in Minnesota. Never had a problem.

Have had several Dmax's, and other diesels, never have used any additives. Lots of people swear by them, lots do not, I know of several Dmax's that have over 250K miles without using an additive.

GM says no. I have had 3 Duramaxes sinc 2001. Never used a additive,

Just a question along the same lines, I know a lot of owners do not use additives like for octane or injector cleaner, but Do any of you use something like Power Service Diesel Kleen to help keep the tank and fuel lines clean? Like from BioDiesel fuel.

I use it every once in awhile in my other brand Diesel engine. Don't know how well it works or if it works, but it doesn't seem to do any harm. We have gotten Diesel fuel from a lot of different places in our travels and usually from well recognized stations like WalMart Murphy or Buc-ee's when driving around town, or truck stops while towing.

opti-lube is what i use in my 2006 duramax. might be a waste of money, might not. might help, might not. I simply choose to use it. i use the summer blend
