2021 22mle, buying this week!

Anything this model typically has issues with in the past? Looking forward to this purchase! Thanks…..
Nothing is really unique about each model. They basically have all the same components

Best thing to check is the roof thoroughly. Hopefully you see lots of gobs of sealant showing that the previous owner was doing maintenance

I had a 2021 22MLE. Solid unit, no serious problems. The refrigerator door handle broke within the first few trips. GD sent me replacements within the week. I think that model fridge was known for that.

We have a 2024 22MLE and absolutely love it! The floorplan is what sold it for us.
Keep us posted on your new rig!

We have a 2023 22MLE and just liked the floor plan. Weren't crazy about the curtain so we replaced with 2 curtains (one on each side) heavier and light blocking. Ours has the tankless WH which we also a little concern with, but it's worked out ok. One of the main things to be aware of, on this model and many others, is the Schwintek slide. We almost didn't purchase after researching all the issues that that system has had. Overall the build quality seems pretty good, we've done several other mods,
which you kind of do no matter what you buy it seems..........

If you actually looked at how many Schwintek slides are used across the industry you would see that it is NOT that common to have failures
Imo the biggest cause is operator error in not keeping them in sync

We have a 2023 22MLE and have been pretty happy with it. We do not like the ubiquitous Furion tankless water heater and had to have it replaced after getting E5 errors do to water intrusion damaging the blower motor. It was replaced under warranty but if/when it fails again we will be replacing it with something better.

We down sized from 36’ 5th wheel to a 22 MLE last year, and it is working out great for us. Hope you enjoy your unit as much as we do ours.

We’re sitting in ours as I write this. We have had very good luck with ours.

The standard flex pipe in the bathroom, under the sink leak.
A gas valve leak on the center burner which I repaired myself.
The “back flow” device in the black tank flush line failed. I just removed it and use a check valve at the supply connection.

Other than that, the model has been very sound. Easy to tow and a great couples trailer for those who do not want a big rig. A studio apartment on wheels.

Good luck!

Just curious why you didn't replace the vacuum breaker, instead of installing a check valve. I don't think their functions are identical.

Semantics.
I placed a screw on vacuum breaker on the Y connection at the water hose bib on the leg that feeds the spray nozzle. I see these same ones fitted on many of the campground”s potable hose bibs that we visit and it seems to do the same thing as that plastic device that was under the sink. Oh and ours had a baggie zip tied around it from the factory. Not sure what that added to the functionality. I do know the stink is gone and the sprayer is a positive function.

That ‘plastic device that was under the sink’ is probably an AAV, not a vacuum breaker.

Indeed it is. Why it’s used on the spray port seems redundant. The feed line is a solid connection without it. When it fails, it allows water and oder to enter the camper and the spray function seems to decline (at least to the ear). I’m sure there is a reason for its existence but my experience is that the black tank functions fine in its absence. Addition of the vacuum breaker at the hose bib Y connection adds a layer of protection from cross contamination.

Thank you for the enlightenment. But it does show that it's not really semantics, the vacuum breaker really isn't a check valve per se. Sometimes proper terminology prevents confusion. :)

I don’t think they use an AAV on the black tank flush line, at least they didn’t on mine.
They stuck one on mine, unless again I’m mistaking it for some other device. It looked very similar to the one on the sink right next to it. I assumed that its purpose was to prevent the possibility of black water flowing through the spray port hose and contaminating the point source. Maybe its proper name is a back flow prevention device but whatever it is, it failed and is no longer in use.

Vacuum breaker:

OK,
I’ll try and put this to bed. I did a search and the device I’m referring to in the above thread is known as a Black Tank Anti-Siphon Valve. Google defines it as a “specialized check valve that prevents wastewater from flowing back into the fresh water supply line”.
That stated, it is not an AAV (my mistake) so…..

To the OP, this “valve” did fail on our MLE but it’s not a big deal to replace (inexpensive) or remove and use a vacuum breaker at the point source. I say this because it was a very easy fix to remove the valve and replace it with a brass nipple which was available at a Home Depot (along with the vacuum breaker) close to where we were camping when it gave up the ghost.

Good luck with your MLE. I think you’ll find it was a good decision. Enjoy.
