After a total of about 18 weeks of use, 6 trips over the past 2 years, our fridge stopped cooling down to the correct freezer and refrigerator temps. Plus we would open the fridge and the cooling level blue lights would be blinking.
Turns out that the condenser fan (the one behind the plastic shield in the freezer) would not spin. Did all the normal power on/off etc no good. The compressor was still running in some sort of emergency mode, as the condenser was getting cool, and we could hear the compressor running.
We still had about 6 days left before we could get home, so we took a 12 volt table fan, and put it in the freezer compartment, to try to push some air through the condenser coil, and filled the 2 bottom drawers with ice. Lucky for us we also had a portable 12 volt freezer, and managed to complete our trip. It did not help that this was the 3rd week of July heading from Idaho down to San Diego. Temps in the high 90’s.
Anyway, a replacement fan is on backorder with Dometic, due in next month. Not an issue right now, as our next trip is not until October. There does not seem to be a 3rd party replacement part. Third party similar fans on Amazon run about $30.00. The OEM part costs over $200.00. If anyone has found a 3rd party fan replacement please let me know.
It’s hard to understand why a $1400.00 Fridge uses such a cheaply made fan. A critical component of the Fridge. Very upsetting.
