After a total of about 18 weeks of use, 6 trips over the past 2 years, our fridge stopped cooling down to the correct freezer and refrigerator temps. Plus we would open the fridge and the cooling level blue lights would be blinking.

Turns out that the condenser fan (the one behind the plastic shield in the freezer) would not spin. Did all the normal power on/off etc no good. The compressor was still running in some sort of emergency mode, as the condenser was getting cool, and we could hear the compressor running.

We still had about 6 days left before we could get home, so we took a 12 volt table fan, and put it in the freezer compartment, to try to push some air through the condenser coil, and filled the 2 bottom drawers with ice. Lucky for us we also had a portable 12 volt freezer, and managed to complete our trip. It did not help that this was the 3rd week of July heading from Idaho down to San Diego. Temps in the high 90’s.

Anyway, a replacement fan is on backorder with Dometic, due in next month. Not an issue right now, as our next trip is not until October. There does not seem to be a 3rd party replacement part. Third party similar fans on Amazon run about $30.00. The OEM part costs over $200.00. If anyone has found a 3rd party fan replacement please let me know.

It’s hard to understand why a $1400.00 Fridge uses such a cheaply made fan. A critical component of the Fridge. Very upsetting.

Hello Vanteer,
We have the same unit that also had a fan fail, this is the second unit to go bad and failed after 34 days on the road, I am being told that this fan cannot be replaced, can you update?
Thank you

Tony,
As Dometic customer service told me back in August, the fan part number 4453000635 was on backorder. I finally received the fan about 3 weeks ago. I installed it (did not seem that difficult) and it works fine. But have not been on a trip yet. It is scary that it is giving others the same problem.

Who told you the fan cannot be replaced? Dometic customer service or your dealer? Unless Dometic changed their policy, it was for sure a valid part number.

When you say second unit, was the complete refrigerator replaced the first time? Or just the fan? If just the fan, did they use the OEM fan?

Good Luck,....

Thank you Bob, yes the dealer told me this.. I will be following up with them tomorrow on this issue, yes the first unit compressor failed after a total of approximately 100 days of in use time but past warranty, after much negotiation with Dometic they replaced the unit as “good will” this past July…fan failed in September and they would not honor this. I am very mechanical and have basic electrical skills and if it is a simple as you say I’m willing to try and save the $2100 cost.
I will follow up.
Thanks T
