Never had / seen this problem. We arrived at camp on Friday and upon setting up the sewer hose I was greeted with a nasty surprise. When I pulled the waste valve cap off a lot of sewage came out. Typically, when I remove the cap about 1/4 cup of liquid comes out but this was a LOT and it was not just liquid. I thought MAYBE someone had pulled the black handle and pushed it in. So after camping all weekend I drained / flushed the black tank and filled with 10 gallons of water, then drained both gray tanks. Rather than place the waste valve cap on, I left my clear sewer elbow on, and capped that.

As soon as we returned home from the drive, I noticed the elbow is filled (and assuming the pipe as well)

So, my long-winded question is: Are there adjustments to the waste valves? The tank isn't leaking when sitting still, is there some vacuum valve in there or anything?

Thank You!

I'm no expert on this subject so you will get more informed responses from those that are. I do know that the gate valves will end up leaking some waste and you will get some liquids spilling out but, yours sounds like the valve is not completely shutting. Maybe some blockage? Adding a Valterra valve is worth its weight in gold by adding an extra layer of protection. Since I've added mine, I do not get anymore spillage.
Here is a link to one on Amazon

I had this event happen three FW’s ago. We’d been camping without hookups. Drove 4 hours to the next place and 1st stop was the dump station. I destroyed that dump station. It was awful. Never again would
I not have a gate valve downstream of the tank valves. My last one had a gate valve from the factory before the outflow, and my new solitude I installed one on the end the day of purchase. Glad I did. I’ve got the same issue. Come to think of it I’ve had this issue on every FW I’ve owned.

Ive got the dealer looking into it, but it’s a toss up. Leaky valve contained with a gate valve or let the dealer chop up the bottom of the trailer to fix it. Lose lose.

Thanks, I've ordered that and will continue to research what the root cause it.

Yes...never had it happen and the oddest thing is, there wasn't a leak before and while sitting for 8+ hours there was no leak, only when I drove. Thanks...I'll def be using another valve for foot protection...;)

Oddly enough, i just had the same issue with a leaking black tank valve. Fortunately i have a Valtera valve on it. It leaked about a quart or two. I thoroughly flushed my tank a bunch of times and it seems to be good again. Flushed like 5-6 times with 25 gallons. Maybe a serious flushing would work for you.

Pretty normal with use, and why we seasoned RVers have a secondary gate at the outlet. For sake of the conversation, we'll use the term 'crud.' Black tank crud can build up against the gate and even tip into the slot keeping the gate from fully closing. Even if you are religious about flushing to an extreme clean. Also, the long cable extensions don't transmit the full amount of force applied - lost to friction and flexibility of the cable. So you may be pushing that pull as far in as you can till it hits the threads, but doesn't mean the gate is fully closed. With a secondary gate with direct connect handle, you can be certain it's closed. When I recently had my entire basement floor out for replacement, I actually could push the black tank gate valve closed another 3/16" right at the tank while the flexible extension handle was fully seated!
