UPDATE: I was able to get the problem fixed. It turned out to be a bad ground wire in the back half of the trailer. I just had to hire a mobile technician and he was able to get it solved.

ORIGINAL POST:

Hello all! Wondering if anyone can advise or point me toward any helpful links and/or threads. Thanks!

Trailer: 2023 Imagine 3210BH

Problem:
Having trouble with my electrical system. This is the third time it has done this in the last 2 months.

I discovered it each time when I entered the trailer and waved my hand in front of the control panel only to find that it doesn't "wake up." When that happens, here is what is going on in the trailer:

What works:
GFI over stove, outlet in bunkroom
Small lights over table, coffee bar, stove, over recliners
All lights in the bathroom and bedroom
Light in refrigerator (I have not checked if the refrigerator cools though)

What does not work:
Control panel (and any lights/slides/awnings controlled by it; although one caveat: the first time this happened, the overhead lights were on which made it so they couldn't turn off!)
Light switch in bunkroom
Individual wall lights in bunkroom
GFI in bathroom, outlets over coffee bar, on island

What has fixed it twice is the following routine: (1) unplug from shore power, (2) turn off all breakers, (3) disconnect the battery, (4) unplug one of the solar panel wires, (5) let sit for several hours.

This is obviously not a workable long term solution. Something is causing something to trip and I don't know where to begin to isolate this. I may have a broken GFI in the bathroom (it's acting up and I plan to replace asap) but I don't understand how this would affect such a hodge-podge of other things.

Note: No fuses are broken; house outlet is fine; surge protector still working fine.

Any advice is appreciated.

Good question, as it seems that you are having a mix of 12 volt and 110 issues...

What you describe sounds an awful lot like an defective electronic processor fault.

These types of faults usually show up in the first six months, if used daily, or longer, if used intermittently.

I would suspect, first, the control circuits for the AC/DC converter, since you are having problems with both the 12VDC side and the 120VAC side.

I would call Grand Design and see if it is under warranty and get it to a dealer for diagnostics.

120V AV circuits

12V DC circuits

I think you need to troubleshoot one problem at a time. Doing everything you listed is just too much change at one time to determine a root cause.

Since you know you have a bad GFI outlet in the bathroom that should be first.

Then on to the 12v circuits. I don't have any One Control stuff or system. But I would think there is a central brain someplace and it has relays to control things (maybe electromechanicalm maybe just electronic). I'd make sure all connections to that controller are tight, firm, plugged in all the way and all pluggable components are seated good. Same goes for the control panel.

After a good check of the control panel I would move on to all the 12v circuits to/from the battery/converter/solar system.

Then I'd disconnect the solar from the system and wait to see if the failure occurs. If it does I would still leave the solar off/disengaged and then I would remove power from the One Control (however that is done) and reconnect to see if the problem clears. If it doesn't then just remove power and wait (however long you usually wait).

I would not disconnect the battery yet. I'd completely rule out the One Control and power associated with it.

All this will take a while. But it has to be some kind of systematic approach. Good luck.

I think I would start at the fuse box/breaker box and check for loose wires.

The 2 occurrences could be totally unrelated, but related as to loose connections.

Do you have the touch panel ? Will the slide work for the phone app ?

Thanks everyone!

We were supposed to leave tomorrow for the east coast, but that isn't going to happen.

I managed to get a mobile tech to come out and he was able to figure out the problem. It was a ground wire issue on the back half of the coach. He was able to isolate which wire on the daisy chain was bad and replace it. We're back in business and though it was a spendy hourly fee, I wouldn't have been able to figure it out on my own. (Perhaps now that I have seen it done I could, but there's no way I would have known what to look for.)

I did replace my GFI outlet (separate issue) and that seems to have fixed the 120 system issue.

Thank you all again for your advice and comments. Those have also given me good things to think about in terms of ruling out one thing at a time. That will help me in the future, no doubt!

Andrew
