Members sought details on the 22MLE’s roof truss construction, specifically how to obtain a roof plan from Grand Design (GD), what materials are used, and the standard truss spacing. Experienced RVers shared that trusses are typically made of wood and spaced at 16 inches on center, though minor variations can occur around vents or fans. While GD customer service may provide a roof layout drawing upon request, some members noted that it’s not guaranteed.

Practical tips included...

1. You can call GD customer service and ask for a roof layout drawing from them... they may or may not be willing to provide it.
When I mounted solar panels on my roof this past spring I went up on a ladder on a morning with dew. The outlines of the trusses was very easy to see. As the Capt said 16" centres, but sometimes because of vents or fans or whatever there can be the odd variation.
In addition to other responses, you can simply walk on the roof and you'll know where the trusses are by the way the roof flexes under your feet when you are between them and flex less when you are on top of one. Also, check out some of the videos on RVRoofInstall YouTube channel. They replace roof membrane and sheathing so you can get a good idea of how these are built. They are pretty much the same across types and brands.
I got a roof truss outline with measurements from Grand Design for my RD260 due to the need to add solar panels. It was very helpful. They have the roof layout for all RVs.
