We've been trying to find a spot for a 3 month stay someplace around the Bradenton/Sarasota area or a little south, maybe a little inland within a 30 min or so drive to the ocean.
Most places have a 2 dog limit :( , we have also run into nothing over 40 lbs . We'd rather not move every 2 weeks by staying at state parks, but it's starting to look like we'll have no choice.
The clock is ticking on the park reservation meter and we'll need to start reserving this week if we can't find a spot. Any suggestions? .HELP!!!!

Marcy we stayed at Bay Bayou Rv Resort in the Tampa/Oldsmar area this winter and have already made reservations for next year. Some full timers. Very well maintained. Lots of trees. Quiet. Saw lots of dogs but not sure about numbers regualations. It's about 25 minutes from Clearwater-one way- and Tarpon Springs the other. We found a beautiful county park beach at Tarpon Springs that we fell in love with. We drove down the coast to Treasure Island and Reddington quite a few times. Not very far at all. Beautiful area with lots of restaurant choices.
You are right about FL cg's filling up quick! Get on it girl!!

Hi Marcy

We were in SW Florida in February doing some reconnaissance. We too like the Sarasota/Bradenton area or farther south.
We are on the waiting list at Riverside RV Resort & Campground -- Arcadia address, but only 5 mins off I75, 30 mins or so to Venice, very large sites, and a good arrangement on Internet access.
We have a back-up plan and are on the waiting list for Upriver RV Resort in Ft Myers.
I'm hoping to hear from one or both of them by May, otherwise I will be scurrying around also.
Am not sure about their pet policy. You could ask when you call.
Let me know if you don't find either of them on the web.

We really wanted to get south of Tampa/St Pete, away from the coast a little bit, where the prices are somewhat lower, and the sites tend to be bigger.
There are some decent ones near Lake Okeechobee, that I may turn to if these don't work out.

Hi Marcy & Gary

We have also had some difficulty with the "two pet max and nothing over 40 lbs" rule that seems pretty common.
We found a place called the Glades http://thegladesresort.com/ that probably has the same rule on paper, but was a really pet friendly place. Probably further inland than what you are looking for. About an hour to Fort Myers. It's a big park with nice sites still available mid-season, very reasonable rates and a better than most Good Sam discount. The only reason we could guess for this is that they are rather remote. If the location works at all for you, it would be worth a call to discuss their pet policy.

We drove around Riverside, but don't know their dog policy. Nice big sites, especially in the Lakes section.

Thanks for the suggestions. Keep 'em coming. We're on 1 wait list and another has no list it FCFS and location is good but right next to 75. Concerned about freeway noise. We have family members checking it out, they live across the river from it.
I like the Riverside location and shot off an email asking their dog policies.
Rob, the Glade looks very appealing if it were closer that would be on the top of our list, location isn't so hot though. We have several family members in the area surrounding Tampa. To bad none have a drive way big enough for us.
They had to borrow drive way space for our truck when we visited this winter.
Maybe we should have a Grand design picnic at the beach next winter LOL

Hi Marcy,

I figured the Glades would be too remote. We are having the same discussion about where to be next year . . .
I like your idea of a Grand Design picnic in central west Florida, next winter . . . I think there will be a lot of us in the general area.

We have stayed at Seminole Campground in Ft Myers the last two years and plan to again in 2016. Nice treed sites just off the Caloosahatchee river and down the road from Upriver RV Resort.

Thanks Steve, but they have a 2 dog limit also. It was the very last item in their rules and FAQs

Riverside replied to my email that they are dog friendly and offered to send their wait list form, but never said a dog # limit. I replied with a yes I'd love to be on the wait list along with my 3 dogs. We'll see if they send it tomorrow
.

Marcy,

The rules say there is a 2 pet limit unless special permission is granted by the office. You might want to call and ask permission. Last I heard, they were 80% booked for next year. That was last week.
