Is the unit designed to be towed with a full load ?
I normaly just put enough in to use the bathroom if required on our trips.
But was wondering if the unit is strong enough to carry a full load ?

I usually have 1/3 tank of fresh and empty, or nearly so, gray and black tanks. A full tank of fresh water will weigh 400 plus pounds. This is based on 50 gallons. Just makes sense to me that putting undue strain on the straps holding these things in place is just asking for trouble. Been doing it this way since 1975, no problems with any of the tanks in my trailers.

Yeah, I have to agree with Don. I will travel with a full tank for relatively short distance if I must but generally hold about 1/3 tank. Speaking as someone who has had to completely remove my belly cover to repair a broken black tank, I wouldn't want to travel far with those tanks full. Especially the fresh water tank. When I was working on my last trailer I found the metal straps that hold the tank up were beginning to cut into the soft plastic (the gray and black tanks are hard ABS plastic which is at least a little tougher). I added rubber sheeting to every contact point I could reach to help protect it but trust me they aren't so careful when building. There were sheet metal screws even poking the tank. Now this was a Keystone product.

When I dry camp, out of necessity I travel with a full water tank. I've never had an issue.

Same with me Jim. Usually about 85 miles, 10 of which is dirt road. No issues in 15+ years.

My understanding is that RVs are designed to be towed with a full tank you just need to be conscientious of loaded weight since a full load of water is several hundred pounds. As Tucson Jim pointed out we too did a considerable amount of dry camping years ago and always stuffed the tanks full like crab on a crab boat on deadliest catch. We did one camping trip full of water with our 303 since the state park water their seems stinky to us and the RV while a little more tail heavy, towed just fine.

Right on thanks for the tips & info !
I'll travel as light as possible & try to top the fresh water off at a place with potable water close to our camping sites.
Nice to have some people to bounce these types of questions off of.

Same. I've never had a problem. Why have a fresh water tank at all if you can't haul water in it?
