In freezing weather. . . a common suggestion is to "run" bath & kitchen faucets and OPEN their discharge valves to prevent pipes from freezing. Since bath & kitchen faucets ("gray" water tanks) discharge with the Black Water valve.

What position should the Black Water discharge valve be in? [open as well, right? ]

My bath and kitchen faucets discharge with gray valves not black valves

How are you going to keep the toilet from freezing?

Are you in it without heat?

I would ensure the black tank is very well cleaned and empty before you leave it open to drain. You will leave solids behind if they are in there

Right. I am living here in Missouri WITH heat. There's a short cold snap here. Your gray tanks and mine are same configuration. I have heat tapes on campground "riser", my sewer line, my "Y" connection of gray and black water and a heated fresh water line. Prior experience has shown that's not good enough. Sigh. I'm gonna run my faucets with gray tank valves open as well as black water valve, though I'd rather not . . . . fearing "poop pyramid".

Not a good idea to leave the black tank valve open. I won’t leave faucets running either nor the gray tank valves open. Everything stays off and closed till dump time.

Whenever we encounter freezing weather, we switch to using the internal fresh water and disconnect the water hose. This has worked for us in several freezing situations.
