Like everyone else,
I was getting the yucky juice when removing the dump cap.
I took the advice of many on this forum and added the Valtera Twist On Valve.
Problem was every place I looked was out of them except 'Walmart.com'.
It is now in place and no more nastiness.

Thank you to all who commented on this fix earlier. You're a great resource!

I did easy fix to Valterra T58 Twist On valve to prevent if from coming loose when removing sewer hose. Drilled a 1/8 hole at top where it connects to camper valve and took very short screw and ran it through Valera valve and camper connection. Now to remove Valtera valve you simply remove screw if it every needs to be replaced.

Putting on Valterra T58 valve has saved me on several occasions when I didn't have everything connected correctly.

Use one on your Thetford dump tank to prevent mess at dump station. When I get elbow into dump station trap I open Valtera gate valve - no more mess at dump station. Wish Thetford had gate valve like the Barker dump tanks.

Thanks for the tip! I'm going to do this today. Love the valve but sure is a sloppy fit.

FYI. If you start having electrical issues, take your right angle adapter off. I have seen two go bad and leave the owner scratching his head not being able to find the problem. I'm not trying to say they're bad and don't use them. I'm saying people just don't think about those when/if electrical problems pop up.

ON Edit. You have an 50 to 30 adapter which may or may not be a right angle adapter. Another PSA. When hooking a 50 amp coach to 30 amp service it's easy to draw enough amps to start melting the plug at the pedestal. I choose to plug the pig tail into the pedestal in case this happens and not damage a more expensive 30' extension cord. I do realize some people prefer to work with the lighter 30 amp cord versus the heavier 50 when not using the AC (s).

Just facing the valve the other direction will assist in keeping it on. Gravity can be a wonderful thing!

Edit: of course that was specific to the orientation in the picture

I do have mine in the opposite orientation but still doesn't seem secure. We are boondockers and do some dirt roading. I'd hate to loose it. 1 small screw coming right up this afternoon.

Good eye.
Here at the house (where my trailer is stored) I only have 30 amp service for the trailer to plug into.
The adapter/cord you see is only used for charging the batteries or turning on a few lights while we load or unload.
We do not keep the trailer plugged in all the time.
Thank you for your concern though. I appreciate it.

$44.43 on Walmart.com is pricey for what you're getting. I would need two of these for my 311BHS. For that kind of money, I'll continue using rubber gloves and a small bucket to catch what spills out when I open the cap.

I have one also, a word to the wise if I had it to do over again and I still my do it is to get the one that I can permanently install, I tell you why like someone had mention but I was taken my hose off and the whole valve came off and yes even that stinky liquid came out and I tell you it was one of the worse day of my life, so I took some gorilla glue and glue all the taps. Other than that I love it but I'm thinking strongly on install one permanently.

I drilled small hole at top through Valterra valve and camper connection when installed and used very small screw that would just go through Valterra valve and camper connection. Now valve is permanent and easy to replace if every needed.

Another use for the valve... The two grey tanks never fill up equally. Since the shower and bathroom sink drains to one tank and the kitchen the other one. I use the valve to make the tanks fill up at the same rate.
With the sewer tank valve closed, I close the Valterra valve and open both grey tank valves. This plumbs the grey tanks together and lets the tanks fill equally. To dump, I close the grey valves, open the black valve, dump that tank and flush. Then I close the black valve and open the two grey valves to empty those tanks. Then, I close the black valve and the Valterra valve, open both grey valves and leave them open. This leaves all the tanks drained and ready for the next trip. It may sound confusing but after a couple of times it will be easy to remember.

Another thread had a link to etrailer, which promised fast shipping...but the valve appears to be on backorder.
I found it on Camping World in stock, and with shipping about $32. Far, far better than what I was seeing last fall when I first started looking.

Silicone II works well for keeping it on semi-permanently.

X2 - pictures below as shared a few times on similar threads and the orientation as Jim shared in his post #6 . Our local GDRV dealer has these in stock for mid 20ish dollars as I recall when we were there a couple weeks ago.

It's funny that people say, "I've been using/doing such-and-such for years and never had a problem."
Sure, you don't have a problem until you have one, then it's horrible - and I've had one like you did.

This is my permanent solution that I learned about from the video link.
I'm assuming there's a reason plumbers don't use 1/4" plastic pin bayonet fittings in household sewer systems.
