Anyone installed US Cargo Control L track in the garage?

This is probably common to the travel trailers and the fifth wheels, but with the limited tie down points I am looking at how to install L track in the garage area. But it needs to be bolted from below so would require dropping the floor below the unit and the fuel tank and insulation will be in the way.

So curious if anyone has ever tried that? Honestly that would be an awesome factory option if they offered it similar to what you can get in ATC haulers.

Might try it myself once I get my 31G unit this weekend and see how hard it would be.

I've done quite a few mods to my garage for hauling various things. What are you planning on putting in there?

Motorcycles mostly but I want more tie down options for tools and other things. I have three base plates being installed by the dealer for the pit bull trailer restraint systems at the rear so I can either haul two bikes side by side or one bike in the center with those.

But if someone else comes with me I would like to haul three bikes and the third would be secured the old school way with straps and a front wheel chock, possibly between the first two but forward as much as possible or maybe even sideways.

Plus I might get a dirt bike at some point and not sure those work with the Pit Bull, so that would be old school tie downs with a chock again.

So, motorcycles. To me, there's a dividing line between hauling 2 1000+# harleys and (in my case) 2 380# Ducati superbikes or 3 260# KTM dirt bikes.

I'll guess you're more in my ballpark. Maybe it's already in the works (since you mentioned the dealer putting in plates), but I wasn't crazy about cutting holes in my new RV nor permanently mounting equipment on the floor of my garage.

On my previous toy hauler, I had a Pitbull like system (STS actually) and it was nice, but even the plates got in the way sometimes. Plus it didn't help with the variety of stuff I wanted to take - meaning different road(race) bikes, dirt bikes, bicycles, and even just cargo.

So for the 2 wheeled devices, I opted for the BoltItOn system. I could go on and on about it, but basically, I can configure it to secure any combination & variety of bikes I want. Plus, I can take it completely out of the trailer when I get somewhere and not have anything in the way of using the garage as a workspace, spare bedroom, or party area.

But I needed something else for cargo (rolling toolboxes, race stands, folding tables, riding gear, extra tires/wheels, chemicals), so I put x-track around the perimeter walls so I have configurable anchor points for anything I can put on the floor. I also added two PitPosse cabinets - one for riding gear and the other that's a combination chemical cabinet and small work table.

Here are a couple of photos of what I've configured & carried. If you want any details on this stuff, let me know.

Sweet setup! What is that bolt on system and where do you get that? Curious about it. They have not mounted the plates in the rear yet but it’s gonna be done in the next day or so so that’s likely still the primary mode of connecting my track bikes. But I like that bolt on for other options.

I found the web site:

https://boltiton.com/

How do you tie down the bikes, just from the front? Or do you tie down the rear also? I prefer to tie mine down with the triple tree and not on the bars, so I assume you can still do that?

I have thought also about L track around the edges but how would you attach it to the wall? Drill through the wall and bolt it from the outside? That would give some tie down points for other items in the garage.

That's the guy. Scott is the owner and I've had many exchanges with him about setups. I actually have 3 bars and about 10 or so attachments (most bought from him, others from a friend). I have both trailer components and an interchangeable setup that's mounted into the back of my F450.

For the back, I run a soft tie through either the wheel or subframe to the factory eyelets in the back of the garage.

You certainly can tie to the triple trees if you bike allows it, just like any tie down strap system. I can't tie to the lower triples on my Ducatis since they're too high up in the bodywork to get any spread of the straps. That's why I use the canyon dancer handlebar straps. (in reality, those bars take a lot more force in actual use that I put on them with the straps)

Ugh, there's NO WAY I'd go through to the outside! What I did was imitate what Grand Design did in mounting the Happy Jack. GD uses self tapping sheet metal screws to go into the aluminum-over-wood main studs in the walls. First, here are the two types of screws I used.

To do the mounting (and thanks to another guy on this forum's idea), I added some 1/8 sheet steel "wings" that extend horizontally from the HappyJack rails to provide a mounting location for the X-track.

Then I opportunistically added more self-tappers along the X-track to where I could get to the other Al/wood studs in the walls. I put some PVC garden edging under the X-track to provide some cushion between it and the soft wall. My thinking about the X-track is that it's not really supporting any huge weight, it's just there for stabilization of relative light (<200 lb) loads (like my roll around tool chest). Here's a close up of a completed section.

The long/coarse thread self tappers went into the Al/wood studs, the short/fine thread screws were for going straight into the sheet steel wings.

I've had this setup now for about 2 years hauling all sorts of stuff and it's been fantastic. I've been all over the western US down some pretty lousy roads and (knock, knock) not had anything come loose or break.

Awesome thanks! Yes that was my thinking also that any L track or E track I put in would be just for stabilization. I believe the framing in the floor is also aluminum so possible could out some tie down points into it also somehow.

Great ideas! I have some projects for the spring to get this thing track ready :). Heading to Miami in a week and a half so won’t have time before then but then plenty of time before the next track day after that.

Yes I think you are right, it's a steel frame for the floor. If I can find there the framing joists are it should be good anchor points to put in some L track I think. Same for if I find some good points on the wall to go into the aluminum studs.
