Just curious if anyone puts their portable generator on a hitch carrier on the back of the trailer, either aluminum or steel, when travelling? I know that there is a lot of motion back there going over bumps and things so just looking for feedback on how the generator and carrier have been holding up. I had a bike rack with 4 bikes back there and nearly lost the bikes when the rack bent so don't want a repeat with a 100lb generator and gas cans.

I would never do it. Too much weight and money to risk imo
Is this a fifth wheel?

We just use a small generator. Runs everything we need .
People carry 4000 watt generator arund wanting to run the planet.

I have considered it but not followed through yet. My pin weight is already very large so putting a generator in the front would make it worse. The rear hitch is rated for 300 lbs and a good size generator is nowhere near that. I have pulled a 3000lb trailer behind it with 300 lb hitch weight with no issue whatsoever so surely it can handle a 100lb generator on a cargo carrier. Of course, my cargo carrier is much sturdier than the bike rack I have. From the leverage, it would also lighten my pin weight but probably not by much.

Thanks for the input and your use. I plan to use the larger generator to run 2 ACs so that when the dog is alone in the trailer it doesn't get too hot for him in there. Not run the planet. :)

I am in a similar situation and at some point may put a washer/dryer in so the generator on the back would help. Just concerned about having the cargo carrier break or damaging the generator with all the up and down at the back.

You may want to consider something that attaches to the bumper (3 attachment points vs. just 1). Seems a bit more stable. And if you do go with the hitch unit, I believe eTrailer.com fabricates/sells wedge adapters to stabilize the hitch connection so it doesn't bang around within the hitch.

I'm considering something like this for firewood and assorted items. Rated at 500lbs but haven't checked what my bumper can handle yet...that may be the limiting factor.

I don't have bumper on the Solitude but as @Jims94vmx stated you should never attach anything to the bumper. They fail.
