Are Hose Reels Worth Installing for RV Fresh and Black Water Lines?

Several RVers considered installing small hose reels for fresh and black water hoses but most found them unnecessary due to space constraints and the ease of coiling hoses manually. Members commonly use buckets or coil hoses in unused compartments, with some discarding hoses they rarely use, like black tank flush lines. Experiences with factory-installed or aftermarket reels were mixed: some found them cumbersome, especially in cold weather or when mounted overhead, while others repurposed... More...

Toying with the idea of installing small reels for my fresh & black water hoses, kinda like the big boys. Anybody try that?

I think about it now and then but its just not worth the effort to me. Not when all I do is throw out my expandable hose and plug in the quick connect.

I coil the freshwater hose in with the Nautilus panel, space otherwise unused.
I threw out the black tank flush hose years ago, never used, haven’t missed it. Backflushing as we empty the gray tanks works fine.
The one retractable we had was mounted to the ceiling of the pass through for the power cord: a pain to use especially when cold, seemed like a stress on the cable, was a head banger and took up lots of room. Removed, discarded.

I love the Evo Flex 2 hoses, they are so incredibly light. Even with shoulder issues, I don't have a problem rolling those up and they take up so much less space. Years ago, I dreamt of installing hose reels but that was when those suckers were heavy and inflexible. Nowadays, not needed so much. Although the electrical cord even on my 30 amp hurts my shoulders. Maybe the doc will have a solution for that soon though. :)

I have a couple sets of those too. Even the 50 foot section isn't heavy.

Pretty sure Brinkley puts these in at the factory, at least for fresh water. Might look through photos of their RV's to see what they are using.

When we had the hard wired power reel cord installed we now use the factory cord reel for our water hose. Solitude 370 DV didn,t lose any space from what the factory gave.

I'm curious what the factory cord reel was in your Solitude? In our 2024 390RK the factory reel is the powered model.

Yes the factory cord reel is powered on ceiling of drivers side by wet bay but the 50 amp cord is not hard wired in, we hated having to move the cord all the time. We had our selling dealer install a hard wired 50 amp cord with a inline surge protector with remote display. We had them put it under the pantry and utilized the same spot to exit it where you used to have to connect the 50 amp cord. Now we have the original to power wind the water hose.
