awning and tail light issue

And none of those things other than the slide would stop you from using it. anyway….
Like I said if it is working now it is likely to continue working and you could use it if you truly wanted to
I was just commenting because of your complaint it was at the dealer for months with no idea when it will be corrected

Have a great day

I would say that the remote possibility (however small) of the slide or awning deploying while under way is enough reason not to use it.

Could always pull fuses making it impossible since they wouldn’t have power

I don’t get why you keep advocating for the OP to use his trailer while the problem still exists.
He already said he doesn’t want to, and gave his reasons why.
The OP came here hoping for assistance in resolving the problem since the dealer has been unable to.
Not to be told to use the trailer while the problem still exists.
Especially since it could be a potential safety hazard. SMH

Because he said he is missing out on trips and has no date or idea of when it will leave the dealership
The dealer says GD is well aware of the situation and it is a known issue so unlikely anyone here will have an answer and so far hasnt
I am just reassuring him it is likely very safe to use and enjoy until a better time or solution is found
It does ONLY happen when the interior lights are dimmed so……….

“Very likely safe” wouldn’t be good enough for me.
Voltage is probably being back fed into something when the brake lights are activated as well. Don’t know if that possibility has been checked out.

Update:
The dealer service department have confirmed a faulty data harness between the unity board and the Compass connect touch pad. The harness is on order, and I am aware another customer trailer is waiting for the same.

I have contacted Grand Design and Lippert. Lippert are in contact with the service department and have sent some troubleshooting instructions. It is not clear to me what instructions have been sent or what has been found. So I continue to wait.
I am feeling my patience waning...

Please "press" them for an explanation of what exactly they mean by the term "Faulty" and then share with us that info. Was the wiring pinched, shorted, grounded, hooked up incorrectly...etc???? Faulty covers a LOT of territory and does not tell you..or us much of anything. It's kind of like saying faulty if your car will not start.....is it out of gas? battery dead? starter not working, timing chain broke? etc.

You are correct that DOT lighting is separated from one control system.
The "but" is that the one control system has a lock-out feature activated while DOT lighting is activated via the 7 pin.
Apparently this is a safety to prevent uncommanded deployment of slide or and awning while underway. There are tail light inputs to the one control module. Have seen them with my own eyes. I asked the shop for man about them. He provided that tidbit about control lockout feature.
If it’s a single light, it’s not the running light. They are on a common circuit. Marker lights and tail lights would all be on if there was power going to any one of them.

I think everybody involved is stumped. I'm hoping to meet the Grand Design rep who is supposed to be visiting our dealer service department today. Update will follow if I actually meet the rep. His or her ETA is not determined and I'm about an hour travel away.

Well I can report I did not see the rep as he or she remained stateside visiting a dealership there who where dealing with the same issue (so I was told) and yes the check was in the mail too...

Our service department are doing the best they can with the resources (money) they are authorized, to carry out one troubleshooting request at a time. They have stopped working until the rep shows up.

It is my guess the problem is firstly a Grand Design integration issue or secondly,
a component (Lippert supplied) issue. I'm betting due diligence by both parties is being carried out hoping the other bears responsibility.

I'm sure the dealer service department would rather spend their efforts on high value accessory installation to new units before doing time filler work on warranty items.

It is my experience that reporting of work carried out is less than accurate (see my reference to tail light issue resolution).

The trailer sits waiting for a resolution and I wait patiently for this show to be over.

It was a single light, lh side only. That light was out when I checked the trailer on the day I was checking the lights before hooking up to the trailer.
Some techs, like myself found it challenging to write a report for the repair record in a way that described the fix for the fault reported. (the fault reports from airline pilots can be a challenge to interpret)

If the fault is caused by a ground issue as some of you suggested, I would suggest the grounds were doing their job. The tricky part is trying to find what caused the voltage to show where it wasn't intended to show. What caused the awning and tail light to glow dimmly when neither was directly turned on?

Ceiling lights on full bright, awning and tail lights were off. As soon as the ceiling lights were dimmed, the awning and left side tail lights glowed dim! The awning lights were never turned on...the tail light on a separate circuit were not connected to the tow truck.

Grand Design team needs to sort out their unity system integration to their trailer. Lippert needs to sort out any issues between the compass connect control pad and the unity control module, both of which transmit and receive commands and information over a data bus aka canbus.

Maybe two lights glowing dim are pointing to two different issues? One would think a little urgency to solve this would be in order. There are three customers and a dealer unsold trailer at one dealership that I know of requiring resolution.

At this point I would either learn to live with it or demand a buy back.

Hello,

The 2025 21BHE is at the top of my list to buy. Standing by to see your resolution.

Good luck.

Update:

GD and our service department concluded that a unity control module was required. The part came in, I picked it up as the service department authorized myself to replace it

NO FIX.
I built a test lamp with LED marker lamps and substituted bothe to the unity terminals and replicated settings that caused the fault. Ceiling lights in dimmed, awning lights off:
Original fault, Awning lights would glow very dim.

Test with substitute passed so I conclude a ground issue is at the root of the problem.

So I searched out the negative lead for awning lights, removed it from it's splice, found a known good ground and tested the OEM ceiling and awning lights.
Result:
FIXED
