We have a 2021 Grand Design Transcend 265BH XPL that we purchased new. We have the lifetime warranty plus we bought the extra warranty. I have complained about the awning leaking from the first year we took back to have the inspection done for warranty. I was told they have to fix first. Ok, I get that, but year 2, still leaking, oh we have to fix. Ok, I still get that but here we are again after 3 years of complaining and now it is pouring, Well it's not the awning that is leaking it is the gutter rail and of course that is not under warranty.. Has anyone else had a problem with the awning leaking??

Is it the awning leaking, or the gutter rail? If it's the awning, where is it leaking? You're kind of unclear on that. And what was their reasoning for not fixing it the first time?

It is leaking right in the middle of the awning. I have been told that the awning fabric is not ripped. It is coming from the gutter rail. They keep putting silicone on it and not solving the problem. Now they are saying that the rail is not a warranty item and we will have to have it replaced at our cost.

So the water is coming off the gutter, running down the awning fabric, and dripping off the roller? Why wouldn't this be covered under the warranty, especially since it's been happening since new? I think I might contact Grand Design and have a talk with them about it.

That is what I was thinking.. I just wanted to know if anyone else had trouble like this.

Are you talking about the drip down the side of the trailer?
This is a well known issue

There is a seam in the gutter. Mine does it and it doesn’t bother me

If it is something else you would have to clarify that

No this drips(pours) in the middle of the awning. It was just a little drip but now it is pouring water..

This is dead center of awning.

Middle of the awning isn’t clear

The middle of the awning “next to the trailer” or out in the “middle” of the awning fabric

The awning rail joints are not a warranty item. It is a butt joint in 2 pieces that will always leak unless you slide the material out past the joint, then seal the whole joint with something better than silicone.

It is a bit hard to understand exactly where this leak is. That picture looks like the awning is not at the top of the sidewall? Is there more wall above the awning?

My first thought is that is sounds like the water is not running to the front or back like it should. Perhaps the gutter is sloping down toward the middle from each end? Typically the gutters drip where the seam is in the middle, but as others have stated it's just a drip that usually finds its way down the wall. The fix there is to use a good caulk (adhesive caulk, not silicone if you want it to last) to patch that seam.

If it were me, I would caulk that seam, caulk the top edge of the gutter where it meets the wall/roof, and caulk the top edge of the awning rail where it meets the wall (or gutter if they are in direct contact). I would caulk many other areas too, but that's another topic...

Good luck!
