I see I have about 6 inches of my awning beginning to pull away just above my door. I have read about others having this concern and read that GD is suggesting that rivets be put in. Is this something that can be done by the owner or is it a dealer item? Does the awning have to be removed to do it? Any advice would be appreciated. It is just a small area above the door.

It's very easy to do yourself. Get the rivets from GD. Go up a ladder and remove the screws. Use a drill bit the size that GD recommends and drill out the hole. Use a pop rivet tool to install the rivets while you're pushing in on the awning. Once you've installed the rivets, you're good to go. You don't have to remove the awning at all. It took me less than 15 minutes to do the repair, and most of that was setting up the ladder and gathering up the tools.

What is disturbing is that this problem is still cropping up! Didn't GD start using rivets on all new builds in the summer of 2014 as they stated they'd do?

Thank You Jim, not to sound dumb on this one, but I assume you would remove 1 screw at a time and replace with rivets so as not to have awning fall off if you removed all screws. Also did you put any sealer behind the channel? As it appears right now the sealer is pulling away allowing for me to see light between trailer body and channel.

Steve,

I did one screw at a time. I didn't put any new sealant behind it because the original was still pliable. I haven't had any leaks from it in a year now.
