The first night of a 2 week trip and the awning would not retract.
I put the awning out like normal. Just before bed I tried to retract it and it didn't move.
It would extend but it was already all the way out.
I decided to wait till morning when it wasn't raining and pitch black outside.
I Pulled the arm on the step side of the awning that lets the awning droop so water runs off better.
When I did that the arm on the motor side popped up and bent about 45 degrees.
I contacted GD and they said to get a tech out to secure the awning so I could move the trailer.
Tech came out and said the only thing to do was remove the awning.
They cut the fabric off the roof side, removed the arms on both side and left the brackets attached to the trailer.
We don't use the awning very often, maybe 10 times in the 16 months we have had it.
Anyone else had a similar problem?
I'm waiting on GD to hear back from Lippert as to warranty coverage. It's past the 12 month warranty but I'm hoping they step up and cover it at 16 months.

I have an update.
Lippert says the damage was weather related and they refused my warrantee claim. Their reasoning is their awnings are not for use in the rain. They are only to be used as a sun shade.
I guess it's buyer beware.

Yeah, the awnings of today are useless compared to the old school awnings. We rarely put ours out.

Another update.
Grand Design has told me they will send me a new awning free to a service shop. I will pay for the installation.
I really appreciate Grand Design stepping up when they really didn't have to.

well, why can you tilt one side for rain to run off?

We never tip our awning to drain water off it....? we typically retract the water off and then extend it to dry. But then again, we dont ever leave it out when its raining or blowing winds over 5mph. Also, just for weather reasons, we always retract it each evening.
