Janice, Bill, All,
My bedroom door will close itself automatically, not latch necessarily, but it will fall closed. I have asked my dealer to look at it, and they tell me that they "all" do that. So, my question to you all is does yours? Or will it stay open?
Thanks!

I have a Solitude and my bedroom door does the same thing even when the level-up says I am level. I just put a door stop there to keep it open. Not sure why it does that.

I think it's something to do with the level of sites. I've stayed in places where my door closes, and some places where it will stay open. I've come home, park where I always park, level, and the door stays open. You'd think auto level would level the same every time, everywhere, but apparently, there's a slight difference.

Hi @Chris,

You may also want to use a level to verify your Solitude is level both side-to-side and front-to-back as ambient temperature changes can cause 6-point leveling movement. To remedy, you will need 1 quart of Caterpillar Hydraulic Oil Additive (Caterpillar number 1U-9891), then:

1. Fully retract the 6-point leveling system and landing gear on your Solitude fifth wheel
2. Remove 1 quart of fluid from the reservoir
3. Add 1/2 quart of the Caterpillar Hydraulic Oil Additive (Caterpillar number 1U-9891)
4. Fully extend the 6-point leveling system and landing gear
5. Add the remaining 1/2 quart to the reservoir
6. Then level your RV.

Best regards,

Hi Janice,
as checked in the kitchen, on the countertop, the trailer is within .6 degrees of being level. I had the dealer adjust it and reset it. I don't believe it's a leveling issue.
Thanks

Hi @Chris,

You may periodically want to check your side-to-side and front-to-back measurements on the 6-point leveling system using a level in the big, pass-through compartment (that's where we check). When I'm inside our different brands/models parked inside our production facilities on level concrete taking photos, I've noticed sometimes the bedroom door closes as you've described or sometimes it stays open on it's own. It seems to be random (and not an all or nothing situation). If you inspect the bedroom door, does it appear to be rubbing anywhere on the frame? If not, and it fits square in the frame then @Renee may be right :) But either way, keep an eye on it and feel free to email photos to [email protected] so we can see what you are describing.

Thanks,
~ Janice

Janice & Bill,

We had the same issue with our bedroom door. I went to Home Depot and bought a $2 magnetic cabinet door latch & a metal angle bracket. I mounted the magnetic on the back of the door and placed the metal angle bracket on the floor far enough away from the wall to ensure the door knob did not hit the wall. This works great and we love it. Simple fix and maybe Grand Design will pickup on this and add it to all units. Thanks

Mine did the same thing, even when I knew the unit was level...so went to Home Depot and bought a magnetic door bumper, mounted at bottom of door, put a small metal disc on the wall, and it works every time...door stays open with no problems. $4.

Home Depot sells a magnetic door stop similar to a conventional door stop. Install the long part on the door in the lower corner of the jamb side (about 1" from the bottom and 1" from the edge) open the door and mark the side wall of the trailer at center point of contact, screw the smaller part to the sidewall and problem solved with no real fabrication involved.

We have a Reflection 303RLS and the bedroom door only closes when I don't have the unit level. If I am within about 1/8 bubble I'm fine. O me it shows that everything is hung square and nothing is binding.

Hi Johnny and Mary

I'm not sure how I missed your post. Sorry for not responding earlier. Thank you for your suggestion. I will forward it to Micah.

Take care and happy travels,

We have a Solitude on order. Has GD incorporated adding the Caterpillar Hydraulic Oil Additive fix for this and the popping issues reported to the new trailers coming off the assembly line?

Hi Chris and Debbie (@mtpocket),

We have not. This is an isolated and uncommon phenomenon caused by wide swings in ambient temperatures that does not cause any operational issues.

Best regards,
~ Janice
