Best extended warranty company

I'm new to the Grand Design forum and was wondering if any one has an after market rv extended warranty that they recommend or don't recommend. I would love to hear what you've experienced when you actually used the extended warranty for a repair.

We just experienced some of the worst customer service at Portland Lazy Days service department, they fixed the incorrect slide and now refuse to fix the slide that was actually in for repair. (They damaged the slide while our GD was in for repair of a different slide and now claim it is fine.) I would avoid them at all costs.

It made us realize that if we would have had an extended warranty, that they would have most likely fixed the slide for us. (We learned this after speaking with the manager.)

We have had repairs that were out of the GD warranty that we had to pay for out of pocket. Landing gear and slide repair.

Maybe an exclusionary extended warranty is something we should consider if we can find a reputable place to purchase one.

Thank you for your any advice you can give!

Welcome to the forum!

My wife found a very good description of extended service plans a while back (they are not warranties, but rather insurance policies with lots of fine print). They are another form of legalized gambling. The company is betting that nothing breaks that would cause them to pay out more than you paid for the policy; you're betting it will. As in all forms of legalized gambling, the house usually wins. Otherwise, these companies wouldn't be in business or make a profit.

Dave Ramsey and Clark Howard have commented on these plans many times, too. The standard seems to be that 80% of extended service plan revenue goes toward commissions and marketing. Only 20% goes toward paying for actual repairs, which means most people are getting a really bad deal. We prefer to set money aside regularly (earning interest) and pay for repairs as they come up.

PS: this has been discussed many times on the forum - the search function is at the top right.

Thank you so much for your input, I appreciate it!

I did try, several different ways, to look for a thread regarding extended warranty companies but I didn't find a lot that spoke to the issue of quality of service or lack of service of an EW company.

I was of the same opinion in regards to the extended warranty, but since we've been dealing with out of pocket service repairs, we are weighing the options. There doesn't seem to be many reviews of RV extended warranty companies which sure would make it easier to weigh the pros and cons. I did find reviews on consumer affairs for USA Travel Care, aka, American Guardian Warranty Services Inc (AGWS), they were rated at one star.

We heard that Easy care is one of the better companies but would love to hear first hand experience using EC and of any other company that folks may have used.

Thanks again!

We bought an extended warranty when we purchased a used diesel pusher as we were worried about the cost of repairs. They denied most claims (“that part isn’t covered”, “we don’t cover pre-esisting conditions”, etc.), other than one inexpensive one. In addition, they had to OK that repair in advance, adding about a week’s delay to the repair process. Never again.

IMO you would be much better off setting aside that money as a reserve to draw upon when you need a repair.
P.S. Sorry, I no longer remember the name of the warranty company.

Thank you for sharing your experience!

So far this year, 2600.00 or so has been spent on slide and misc. repairs. It's only February and our contingency fund for the RV isn't going to make it to the end of the year at this rate! That's the main reason we are trying to get others perspectives and experiences to see if it's a viable option for us.
In the end we may decide it's not worth the risk. I do really appreciate the feedback. It will be helpful when it comes time to decide how to move forward!

I get what you are going through, as unforeseen repair costs are the reason we no longer have that DP. Best wishes for making the decision that works best for you!

That's one sketchy dealer. They will fix their mistake if someone else pays for it. Run Forest Run.

As to who is the best extended warranty entity? You. Put away the $ you would have spent on extended warranty.....and when you don't use it all, apply the remaining balance to your next RV....or beer....your choice...lol

You gave me a laugh and a smile! Thank you for that!

We are running as fast as we can and have reported them to GD for breach of service, poor customer service. We are also reporting the situation to the Lazy days corporate customer service team. I may start another thread regarding the nightmare we've been encountering and the final outcome, it's a doozy and a long story. As of right now I can't recommend Portland, OR Lazy days RV. They are the most incompetent people I have ever encountered at an RV dealership and that includes the general manager. We'll see if we write off the entire LD's entity based on corporates response.

Thank you for your input!

As threads get longer it can get a bit confusing regarding who you are responding to. Here are a few forum posting tips:

1) If you use "Reply With Quote" (to the right of "Reply") as I have here, folks will know to whom you are responding and that person will get a notification.

2) You can also tag folks using the "@" symbol and their user name (as I have done yours) - they'll also get a notification that way.

3) You can create a signature block with your RV and tow vehicle information (see mine below). That way you won't have to repeat that information whenever you post or ask a question - and others won't have to ask. You can create a signature by going to:

Forum Actions (on menu bar) -> Edit Profile -> Edit Signature (under My Settings on the left)

Note: you'll need to have a paid subscription to add an image to your signature.

It's unfortunate, but there seems to be a lot of RV dealers that are a bit lacking on after sale service. There are also lots of good ones, but they don't get spoken of as often as the bad ones. Hope your issues get resolved soon.

Thank you for letting me know!

We bought the extended warranty on our 2019 fifth wheel. Not something I have ever done before and probably will never do again. We did encounter a problem and called them. The answer was, Nope, we don't cover water damage, Nope, we don't cover suspension damage, Nope, we don't cover frame problems. What do you cover? Things like your a/c and microwave. If only I had read the fine print a little closer. I was also at the dealer having work done and they had an irate customer who I found out had an extended warranty. The service rep I was dealing with said it was a $2200 dollar repair and his warranty was covering $250.
