Background for this mod, we loaded the side cabinet, next to the rear sofa with soda and assorted beverages on one trip. The cabinet base and sides are just 1/8 ply and all of it was jarred lose. When I tore everything apart to repair it I found that the only thing under the base was a single wire to the front mounted plug but 4” or so of wasted space and near the back it was used as a feed thru for tail lights, etc.
I decided to build a long beverage/bar drawer using 30” long lockable drawer slides. Turned out great for storage but it was a bit finicky to get the spacing right and not interfere with the TV/Kitchen Slide. The drawer slides are under the bottom rather than on the sides so that it doesnt force the drawer to be narrow. It was a complete rebuild of the cabinet except the top which I reused and the door which became a drawer front. 2 pictures shows the drawer/base/ slides before the cabinet was rebuilt around it and was being dry fit and built.
The top holds soda/beer cans and the side opening (when the drawer is out) for bottles etc. I have pictures attached of the final build and others that show what is inside and under the original cabinet. FYI, I painted it to match the island color rather than try to match the stain of the original cabinet.
I should have taken a picture with it full of beverages. FYI - 4 trips since and it is sturdy as a rock and even tho the drawer extends a long way the weight of the it full is fine. The locking drawer slides make sure it stays closed during travel.
