Cabinet drawers

I have a grand design solitude, 385GK and I have two cabinets on each side of the stove one has a set of drawers and the other one has two garbage cans that you pull out on a slide. I’m just wondering if anyone has changed out the cupboard with the garbage cans in and put a set of drawers in it instead, it would make more sense to have more drawers and put a garbage can underneath the sink. Thanks.

I have not done "drawers" as that would require adding matching drawer fronts and matching rails. It is easier to keep the door and add rollouts/pullouts. Less effort and materials required, but adding drawers can done.

I have seen several examples of folks removing the trash cans and reconfiguring behind the pull-out with shelves to be accessed from the side. It looked nice and didn't require framing for drawers and more complicated fabrication.
