Any recommendations around Asheville or near the BRP? I will be leaving form Savannah and prefer to keep the distance between 300 and 400 miles. I did consider the recommendations on this thread but there seems to be limited availability for a 45 foot 5th wheel. Looking at April 1st for a few days on our way home to eastern Canada.

We enjoyed Mama Gerties,, just outside of town. But not for the faint of heart if you go to the top tier the drive up is slightly steep, short but steep and worth it. Great views.

Start calling any and all cgs you can, many will be full of returning snowbirds and hard to get a spot

I agree with Mama Gerties. We try to stay there or at Lake Powhatan when we visit Asheville. Unfortunately you are too big for Lake Powhatan. My neighbor stays at the Asheville East KOA when he and his wife go up that way. He has a 5th wheel. I don't know its actual length but I would guess it is in realm of 40 ft. I've never stayed at the KOA so can't say what it is like one way or the other.

I would avoid Wilson's Riverfront RV Park as it is close to the noisy freeway and off ramp and has a highly used public walking trail runs through the grounds.

This will be my first time towing this size trailer. Our current rig is a 34" TT. I'll call and see if they have a place. This is our first year camping this early and I have since learned about the "returning" snowbird migration north.

As Whittleburner stated....the very top of Mama Gerties offers some unbelievable views and is kind of steep to get to the top.....but you'll definitely fit. There is a couple that films a lot of their adventures and they took their new 410TH up there, and it's longer than your 397TH.

For now I made a reservation at Rutledge Lake RV Resort in Fletcher. It was recommended by a member here a few ago in an old thread. I will keep looking to see for something better but like I said, everything seems booked. Thanks for the input. Mama Gerties is cool but booked up.

I'm curious to see what you think. I have looked at their website and thought it might make a good backup if we decide to make a trip to Asheville and can't get in the other two.

Oldcow, if you are a honey eater pick up some Sourwood honey while near Asheville. Is only in that wide area of NC. Grab 2 quarts cause you'll love it.. best honey out there . If you go by the farmers market you can find several selling it. While at the market, grab lunch at the Moose cafe next to the market, we haven't had a bad meal there yet.

We are now at the Asheville East KOA in Swannanoa. It is a nice campground and the staff have been great with us. It was my first time backing up into a 90 degree site and thank God for the young escort. With his guidance I got it first try, if not for him, I would still be trying :) It is close to the BRP, about 6 miles. Had Pizza at https://freshwoodfiredpizza.com/ and it was absolutely delicious. The bruschetta was some of the best I have had.

We did a short section of th BRP as the roads were closed because of expected weather.
