Can 2600RL A/C run on 30amp generator?

Hi - looking for a 'new to electricity' question:

New to 2500RL, brought the trailer home to prep before summer activities, only turned the primary A/C unit on. Initially plugged into outlet in front of house, A/C and tv turned on. Few minutes later, A/C killed the breaker. Moved to 30amp generator, A/C was on for a few minutes then stopped. The trailer is getting power - the tv is still on - and the thermostat lights up but no fans, no cold air, nothing. Am I doing something wrong? Can A/C not run on 30amp generator? Many thanks - want to resolve this before we head out in a couple weeks!

Generators are not rated by amperage, they are rated by two different Wattage numbers, and those are "running" watts and Peak watts. What is yours rated at for both of those watt ratings. Also, if you can tell us what brand and model of generator.

The answer is that you may be able to run your air conditioning with your generator. As you mentioned, the AC tripped the breaker on your outlet, probably a 15-amp circuit. So it's clear that 1,800 watts (15 Amps * 120 volts) isn't enough to start the compressor. While many generators have a 30-amp cord, that doesn't tell us how much they can run, as xrated pointed out, you need to know the wattage ratings. It sounds like the generator was unable to start the compressor in your air conditioner. You may be able to remedy that by installing a Soft Start or equivalent.

My 2022 2500RL runs fine on a gen or a house 110v 15AMP circuit with an Easy Start installed on the AC unit... Prior to that, it wouldn't run

Good luck and let us know how you end up

Rick

I Run my AC on a 3500 watt Generator twice a year - no issues at all. I have run in the past on 110/15A circuit No Soft Start/Easy Start with no issues - using a 12 gauge extension cord.

Figured it, fixed and running smooth!

Thanks everyone for chiming in!! Again, new to a trailer of this capacity and ability, I discovered the breaker box and had tripped one of them. Quick reset and all good to go. My generator is a Westinghouse 4500+ (give or take) so no issue powering the single A/C unit, running like a champ ?? All good! (now lol)

Thanks again ~~ ??

Glad you got it figured out and fixed. Always check the simplest stuff first, it cuts down on the need for Tylenol!
