Can you walk on slide roof while doing maintenance or cleaning?

I have never thought of doing it myself.

The reason that I ask is, I am in a commercial rv park at the moment, and the other day a company came in and was washing the rv’s for $250 for a fifth wheel. I declined as I do all my own cleaning. They had a four man crew and one of them was walking on the slides as he cleaned the slide roof and dried the exterior walls. I thought that was a little crazy. I use a 8 ft. ladder, kind of a pain, but works. I also smelled them using bleach on the roofs. I thought that was a big NO NO as well. I will continue to do my own. Just curious what others do?

Same here. Would not recommend it. Besides our 5er slide roofs are only <30" wide. Most of the area can be reached for maint while on the RV roof without having to walk on the slide roof. Not sure on the bleach... we always used simple green and some vinegar.

FWIW, we were at a Motorcycle/RV rally a couple years ago, and they had a company come out to wash and wax RV's. They supplied their own water and everything. I had them do the sides, but not the roof. I didn't want them using power washers on the roof, just seemed like a bad idea.

Yeah, this company was using a power washer roof down, not a fan.

I use 303 RV Wash & Seal, then ProtectAll on sides, Simple Green on roof, then 303 Protectant to condition roof once it dries, so far so good.

..... and in the 70's, Samsonite allowed gorillas to throw around their suitcases in a cage too, but dont think they "really" intended for their customers to do the same? 🤔

Waaaayyy too many variables for a yes or no answer.
Personally on my rig, at my weight, and at the frequency I may walk on them, I have no problem.

Way too many variables? It’s really not a Yes or No question…it’s what you’re comfortable with doing. I have a 2017 Reflections an I climb n walk on the slides as necessary to gain easier access to the roof. Coming in @ 250 I feel like the slider roof is very solid and safe to be walked on.

I’ve walked on mine. About 165lbs. Once on it, I did try to crawl around so my weight was spread out a little more. These are the through frame slides. The schwintek is another story. I try not to even make eye contact with it much less climb on it. I don’t trust those things. lol.

Yes there's way to many variables. I've inspected some trailers that your 250# butt would of fallen through. Things like roof rot, IS a variable. Being comfortable is another variable and not the only one.
