Cannot use the last 10 gal in fresh water tank

I modified the pump pickup line by T-ing into the drain line. Now I can pull all the water from the tank, in my case another 5-6 gallons.
I'm just curious about the drain line you refer to? I am familiar with the dump valve and the outlet that feeds the water pump. But what is the drain line you are referring to? Mine obviously doesn't have one but interested in understanding... Thanks.

I'm warning others that simple doesn't always work.

@Riverbug Here is a detail of my original tank and the mod I did, that I understand GD adopted.
Thanks Rick. That's interesting. I think it was only done on models where the tank isn't butted up to the bottom of the floor like on travel trailers. There isn't really enough room to put fittings to make that upward U before going down. In a 5th wheel it seems possible. Anyway, it's good that they figured it out for some units though.

I didn't do anything upward. The point is that the overflow/vent lines should stick out not far from the empty valve.

For the life of me....I do not understand why the industry did away with the gravity fill/high vent design.
Your improvement while breaking the siphon, does not prevent water loss due to unlevel roads and sloshing. Only a raised vent line will do that without risking tank damage.

Who knows why they did away with the simple design and went to the complex, leak prone Nautilus design. Must have looked good on paper, and the marketers had their way.

Our 23LDE still has the gravity fill, and our previous 22MLE also had one. For some reason I think they only put them on travel trailers, but not sure if they do it on all of them. The original gravity fill did not have a vent tube. I replaced the original fill port with one that has a locking cover and includes a vent port. I was then able to T off the overflow tube at the tank (which I also added a shut off valve to) and ran tubing up to the gravity fill vent port.

I run all incoming water through the city water fill because I have a dual canister filter up there. But opening the gravity fill cap while filling helps with additional venting. I agree that all units should still have the gravity fill. I lieu of that, if one can find a way to add a vent tube to T off the overflow and run it up higher than the tank, that would help. Of course, you would want it to be able to drain to the outside or into a tank of some sort. That would allow adding a valve to the overflow while providing constant venting.
