We have reservations in Early October for the Albequerque NM Balloon Fiesta(booked almost a year ahead). So while we are out that way, we are going to go to the Chaco dark sky park in northeast NM. We've heard the road into Chaco is a horrible bumpy dirt road, so we thought we would leave the 5th wheel somewhere close and bring a tent for a night or two at Chaco to view the stars.

Has anyone been to Chaco and any tips to can think of for going there, or ideas for the Balloon Fiesta?

Thanks all,

Paul

I have read the same thing about the roads in Chaco. Good plan not to take the rv. You will be going to northwest NM, though.

Balloon festival is great. Expect lots of people, delays in getting into restaurants. If you have not been to Santa Fe, stay there for a couple of days at least either going or coming. My favorite restaurant there is Gabriels, just north of Santa Fe on the interstate. Make reservations and ask for the patio, around sunset.

Rob and Sheila,

Thanks for the reply, that helps. We'll try to get to that restaurant as we were thinking we should visit Santa Fe while we were there. We booked reservations early for the balloon fiesta, so we will be staying onsite with our rig in a premium site with water and electric. So I'm guessing we'll be cooking dinners at the rig. We are so excited to be going to that event and also to the dark sky park. Thanks for your feedback!!
