I’m curious if anyone has any insight into how often GD changes/retires floor plans and RV designs?

We have a 353G which we absolutely love for our situation right now; two teenage kids and lots of cross-country travel with some occasional boon docking. Shortly after we bought our rig it was discontinued, although I believe a few other manufacturers use the floor plan now.

Planning for the kids’ eventually leaving us we were looking at other rigs. We both really liked the Momentum 376TH, although now it looks to be getting sent out to pasture.

Another one of DW’s favorites was the Solitude that was redesigned a little to expand the restroom in the rear master area taking away from kitchen space.

I’m curious if anyone has insights into GDs calculus to change floor plans and RV designs?

I suppose we’ll get over the disappointment of now having to spend hours at RV shows and dealerships walking through rigs to find our next favorite. ?

I'm not sure there's any set expiration date for floorplans. If a specific rig/floorplan sells well, they'll sell it longer than one that doesn't.

When we bought our rig it was before GD was manufacturing smaller fifth wheels and our model only sold for about 3-4 years before being discontinued. Then the 150 and (later) 100 models came out.

If it's a slow sell they discontinue sometimes after a year and other times a year or 2 longer. Their very first floorplan for Solitude sold great and it ended up being discontinued after several years, to us it was one of the best they had...a 369, rear lounge with a huge basement and lots of interior storage..if we ever came across one that was very gently used (the preverbial barn find) we'd seriously consider it today. Over the short years GD has been around several have been discontinued.

On the other hand, two of the most popular Reflection fifth wheel models, the 303 and 337, have been around since the beginning. It all boils down to marketing decisions.

There is no set schedule.

Models come and go as business dictates.

Different brans manager have different opinions on what they want their line to be.

Also, parts manufacturers come up with new pieces every day, that's why there can be several different versions available, even in the same model year.

I bought 31MB in 2019, the first year of production for that Floor plan. I now see that it has been discontinued. They now make a 324MBS to replace it. The only differences I can see is that the 324 is longer by 10", has a larger refrigerator, and weights about 800 pound more (Which means there are other differences I didn't see). Apparently people wanted something a little bigger for a larger fridge or whatever. The layout is pretty much identical.

Interesting topic. We started looking at 2019-2020 344GK-Rs and 310GK-Rs. The 344GK attracted me because of the desk in the rear and we planned on both working remote after retiring if possible, especially during the pandemic. What was odd about it was the appliance slide-out was on door side which I didn't recall seeing on another model. GD flipped the slide-outs in 2021 I think with the 345GK-R but 2023 was the last year for that as it is dealer stock now. Both were a little heavier and longer which would have pushed our payload limit. At the time we ordered we hadn't seen the announcement for the 280RK which was about two feet shorter than the 310GK and that seemed to only have a production run of 2 or 3 years. Then GD announced the 346FLS which really caught my eye as I always seemed to like the idea of a large window up front. Too heavy and too long. Three year run on that. Ultimately, we decided on the 310 as the shortest Solitude at that time and one of the decision points was the longer production run for that model - must be popular, maybe get some bugs out. As in another thread, I'm still trying to figure out how GD measured the 310 from 34'11" 2020/2021 to 35'9" for our 2022 and now 34'4". The UVWs of the 2022 vintage 310s were higher than their predecessor years for sure.
