Cheaper diesel fuel

It's all well and good until their computers are hacked.

What about all of the credit card companies and banks that have your SSN? They can get hacked too. If you ask they will tell you why they need your SSN.

That's ok if you don't join- the other thousands of us are!

The ssn gave me some concern, I talked with them about my concerns and ended up going with the program. Used it for the 1st time on this trip the other day and worked as advertised and paid 1.48 per gallon.

What reason did they give for requiring a SS number?

Simple answer, if you default on your payment they can use your SSN to start collection.

Basically, the company is extending you credit by paying for the fuel and then collecting the money from your bank account. If your bank does not honor the draft, they have already paid for your fuel and they need to be able to collect funds from you. A SSN is simply a starting point for collections.

I am a person who protects their SSN and Identity very well and I agreed to give TDS Logistics my SSN, because, they are in fact extending me credit and I would need to give my SSN to anyone who extends me credit, otherwise, I don't get the benefit of their product or service. After all, you aren't going to get a Visa or MC without it.

Personally, I think the TSD Logstics Fuel Card is one of the Best Programs I have ever participated in, the discounts are fantastic. I would highly recommend it.

I could not agree more. I'm close to 1000 dollars saved this year using TSD, and that's with just a few RV trips. It's close to 1 dollar per gallon savings in my area, and I burn a lot of diesel fuel (all my vehicles are diesel, and I live on a farm, so burn plenty of it in tractors too). It's a fantastic program, only blemish is because of Good Sam shutting down Pilot/FlyingJ, now I have to drive to Loves, which, for me, isn't as convenient. But with the RV, I can always find a Loves along any major road (read: any road I'd take a 60 foot combined rig down).

Honestly, I've given my SSN for a WHOLE LOT less in value before. Could they get hacked and lose my SSN? Sure, they could, but so could a million other places my SSN exists, including in public records (I've sent about 10 redac requests, they never do it, it's just sitting there, plain as day, in a public searchable record from a local government). I have much bigger problems than someone knowing my SSN. The thing didn't/don't like about TSD is the direct access to my bank account, but... I got over that real quick when I started saving 100's of dollars a month filling my tanks.

OK. Furnishing an SS number makes sense now. And I agree, it's amazing how many places require the number so hacking is an ongoing potential problem. Unless one keeps only a small balance in their checking account, I feel linking it to another type of account makes sense. Something with a small balance. I think it might be more likely that gaining access to the bank account would happen before fraudulent use of SS number.

I have set up notification setting on my bank account and credit cards too, to notify me of any transactions. It keeps me informed. KEN

I agree, that is exactly what we did, just be cautious when linking it to a savings account as some accounts have a monthly, number of transactions, limit. Ask me how I know.

You can also pay for def using the card although I don't think you get a discount on it. Still probably cheaper than buying it anywhere else and convenient.

Correct, no discount, but "pump DEF" is really cheap compared to the boxes in the store. I can't remember the exact price, but it was about 3 bucks a gallon last time I filled. Very convenient to be able to get both from one pump though.

I have the card but I am a little confused about where it is accepted.

Love's - Good discount
Pilot - No discount, card usable for convenience
Flying J - No discount, card usable for convenience

Are there any other locations or brands that support the TDS card with or without a discount?

T/A TransAmerica give the discount. Get the card, download the EFS Control app and you can see all of the stations and prices

I have stayed away from posting in this one even though I did start it. I just wanted folks to save if they could and I'm happy to say not only here , but in many forums thousands are saving.

TSD SAVINGS.jpg
I have not had to fill up my truck but a few times in the past few months for well known reasons. I can say my last time at the pumps were a good savings. Street sign and pumps said 2.44. The discounted price was 1.70. That's 74 cents a gallon saved. I find that a huge savings by any standard really. You can not beat the TSD card. TSD has great customer support also.

I know some folks on here will disagree and never sign up for the card with whatever reasons they have, but for the thousands that have and the ones who will, enjoy the savings . They are substantial.
To bad this crazy stay home thing has ruined so many peoples plans.

I'm glade I posted about the TSD ESF program here in the forums for folks to save with. I know I do

Almost all truck stops take the ESF card and give some kind of discount. Pilot and Flying J did , but had a contract with Good Sam who stopped that because they had a 10% discount using their card with Pilot and Flying J and didn't want RV's using anything else . You can still use it there just no discount. It will still turn on the pumps and you can buy the fuel but no savings. Once that contract runs out it will change is my bet. I don't think Pilot will let that RV business go if they can help it.

ESF Has a nice little app you can get and it gives you the price and stations as you go to help you use the card. Lots of people like it. I have it and the Loves APP. With the Loves app you can turn on the pump before you get out of the truck. Order up your fuel and Def all before getting out. It works easy as can be.

I certainly hope so. I have a FlyingJ about 3 miles from my house that I now drive right by to get to Loves, which is close to 15 miles away. Sucks, for sure, but it actually motivated me to go and buy a 100 gallon transfer tank and pump so I can stock up at Loves and not go as often. The thing that's so annoying about this, obviously, TSD has negotiated great rates with the vendors and they pass on all but 10% (of the savings off list) to us as the customers. Great deal. But, how many members/how much fuel does TSD go through compared to Good Sam? I have to believe that Good Sam, being much, much larger (a guess, but I think a safe guess) burns many times more fuel than TSD does from any particular vendor. Which mean, unless Good Sam truly sucks at negotiation, they probably get even better prices than TSD from the vendors, they just keep the vast majority of that savings for themselves. And, if they don't get fuel at TSD prices, well, I would suggest Good Sam sign up for TSD and get with the program! ;)

It's just real annoying that Good Sam is giving SO much worse a discount, TSD is often 30-40% off the posted rates where Good Sam is 10?? Come on, that doesn't make any sense, in fact, this entire program makes me really question how the fuel business works. I thought fuel was a pretty low margin thing, like pennies on a dollar margin. That can't be the case though, no way you can have a posted price of 2.50 and a TSD price of 1.50 if you're only making "pennies" on the 2.50 a gallon fuel. Unless, of course, they are selling to TSD at a loss (can't imagine why they would do that though). When you see diesel fuel today for sale at 2.50 a gallon, is there really a buck of profit in that for the gas station?! If so, wow, I am in the wrong business.

Good Sams has had that deal with Pilot/Flying J for a long time. They are a lot bigger company than TSD Logistics so I seriously doubt Good Sams will lose the contract.

I guess the question is how many Good Sam's customers are they vs how many TSD customers? But then you gotta think that if Pilot/Flying J sticks with Good Sams they are giving a lot smaller discount and making more money.
The truckers still stop at Loves anyway.......... so why give a discount if they don't have too? Every Loves I go to is always packed with truckers

Pilot and Flying J are probably giving the same discount to both parties. Good Sam is holding on to most of it as a profit margin builder and TSD is passing it along as a way to increase market share.

I prefer the second method myself.

I have no idea who is bigger and don't care. I'm saving good at the pump. TSD is just one trucking company , but that ESF fuel card services almost every trucking company out there. If other trucking companies start doing the same as TSD then Pilot will have to think about things. They may turn away one trucking company , but if that number grows?

A whole lot of folks it appears are not using the Good Sam card as much now and that number is growing in favor of the TSD. They go out of there way to save. At least from what I have read in other forums. It is a bigger discussion on those and entertaining also. LOL I see at this point no way for Good Sam or Pilot to win on this over time. They won't lose anything , but they certainly will no longer gain a thing. Camping World / Good Sam has a lot of issues now I suspect they stopped Pilot by way of the contract because they saw a good revenue stream getting hit. Business is Business after all. I can only imagine and guess that Camping World was making a good chunk of change from the Pilot deal using the RV'ers to do so. Sort of like having a no overhead fueling station all over the country making you some good money for almost nothing. That is all just a guess though. Who knows?

I do know one thing for sure if you have the TSD card you will save a good bit money.

I use pump DEF all the time. Cheaper and never had any problems. I like the TSD card it will save you on fuel cost.
