We were looking to drive through the Smokies this weekend on a scenic highway, however we didn't want to tackle the infamous Tale of The Dragon which is the crooked section of Hwy. 129 below Fontana Dam.

We picked the Cherohala Skyway, a 40 mile road between Tellico Plains, TN and Robbinsville, NC. The Cherohala is somewhat crooked, however it's a total pleasure to drive--especially for the hundreds of motorcycles we saw. The road goes as high as 5200', and much of it is at 4200'.

The U.S. Forestry Service has a campground about 10 miles from the Tennessee side called Indian Boundary Campground. They have 100 really nice campsites with electricity (only), concrete pads and a very shady area. Close by is a beautiful swimming beach on a lake with major mountains in the background. Rates are $20 per night--$15 if you have the Golden Passport. Reservations are made at the Forestry Service offices at Tellico Plains.

This is one of the out of the way campgrounds that are very well cared for, and very nice. We'll be back in our 337BHS--when it arrives.
