Chevy HD2500 6.0 gas towing REFLECTION 297RSTS

I am recently retired and looking at purchasing a REFLECTION 297RSTS for me and the wife. I currently have a Chevy HD2500 6.0 gas truck for towing. I am wondering if anyone has this truck/travel trailer combination or opinion with the gas engine towing ability. For the near future I only plan on traveling the lower south east where it is flat. I am fully aware if towing in mountainous area I can have issues with this setup. I would rather find out if we are going to camp enough to justifying upgrading to diesel.
 
Don’t have that setup but sounds solid to me
Likely well within its capabilities and will perform okay
Will diesel work better? Absolutely but I guess you have to ask yourself if you need it. It doesn’t hurt a gas engine to rev them up
 
I just went from an HD diesel to a HD gasser and couldnt be more happy.

I have the cheby 6.6 L8T that replaced the 6.0, the 6.0 has been out for a long time and made to work, and like it, just like the now 6.6 is made to work and like it.

Thanx for the reply, I would feel a lot better if my 2500 had the 6.6. I have a 2016 with only 65000 miles on it. I know if i we do start using the camper a lot, i will probably move back to a diesel. I have had diesels before. They were the F-250 with the 6.0. That should explain why I went back to gas
 
I installed a legal 45 gallon gasoline/diesel/aviation transfer tank in it for the heck of it, takes the worry out of long distances.
I had a diesel transfer tank in my diesel as well.
Years ago when wintering in Texas, the cold snap took out power for days, i had the diesel and 100 gallons of diesel but a gas generator. Now i would have plenty of gas for the gas generator.

I towed a 2018 297RSTS for a couple of years with a 2009 Toyota Tundra and the truck towed great. I was just under my towing capacity and about 300 lbs over payload. You shouldn't have any issues with your truck. Great trailer. Enjoy!!

I towed with a GMC Denali 1500 with a max towing package. Never had an issue, so 2500 would be doable
 
I towed a slightly lighter TT for a couple years with a 2012 2500HD 6.0, it handled it just fine. That truck had 3.73 gears, your has 4.10 (Chevrolet went to 4:10 only in 2015 and up 6.0) which makes a lot of difference. The 6.0 is a great bullet proof engine but expect it to frequently turn 4,000 RPM in order to develop power, it won't hurt that engine though. Fuel consumption is is pretty harsh with these, mine was about 6-7 on a good day. We got a fifth wheel last year and I at that time went with a Duramax. Enjoy your camper!

Mind if I ask what tank you went with? I'm half-heartedly looking for one for a 2024 GMC 3500.

Also, do you smell the gas all the time, or just when filling the tank and/or the truck?

Northern tool, RDS 45 gallon aluminum dimond plate transfer tank. Model #71083 $850. Then shipping cost. Pump is about $400 for a gas rated one, it is said to be different than a diesel but looks the same. I just put a cheap filter inline, with a napa gas filter. Then the auto shut off filler isnt cheap either.

Smell, very little, as it has to breathe, that is what that brass part is, it has a ball for rollover. I currantly have it vented with a clear hose to the lower bed. This summer ill vent through the bed with gasoline hose and a rubber grommet in the bed. No liquid ever comes out. No more smell than when i open the fuel filler door to the pickup.

Gas and diesel ( legal ) tanks are not the same, but a gas can be used for diesel or aviation fuel. Diesel vents through the filler cap, gas is tight, no venting, so needs that brass ball thingy.

I also use gas rated teflon tape on gas stuff, its yellow not white, and thicker. Not needed but why not.

I love it, it wasnt cheap, but well worth it when i can find non ethanol fuel ill load up, as well when prices go up an down, then it extends travel piece of mind a lot tripping empty or towing.

Our coach has a similar weight to the 297RSTS and tows well behind our 2500 HD gasser.

Sorry to chime in late, but here ya go;
the past, 2015 GMC Sierra hd2500 6.0 gas with 3:73 gears, 2015 reflection 303 RLS fifth wheel.
pushing the limits the way we had it loaded but still did ok.
went to a 2019 Chevy Silverado hd2500 6.0 gas with 4:10 gears and now a 2019 Reflection 337RLS fifth wheel, am still happy with this combo but as in both, milage was and is at about 6 - 7 and periodically almost 8. Climbing is or was a challage at times, but never didn't make it. and you are not always climbing but seems we usually are going up hill against the wind.
The overall performace is better with the 4:10 gears but as a daily driver i would rather have the 3:73. I am now in the process also of getting a newer one, most likely the GMC 2500 HD 6.6 gas and the 10 speed transmission. I will bught that bullet right after the first of the year.
factory is down right now, so most likely end up with the 2025 unless i can find a 2024 besides black or white.

after buying REFLECTION 297RSTS, My truck does pull the trailer well in the flats. Thanks everyone for your information. It made me much more comfortable with purchase of TT
 
Use the exact same truck to pull my 2670MK and it works fine. And I'm happy not to have the diesel. What I may lose in power I pick up in cheaper gas, not having to buy DEF, and not waking the entire campground when I fire it up in the morning.

Any new diesel HD or half ton, ( stock ) with DPF and or uses DEF, is very quiet.

I am happy with my 2024 3500 cheby gasser, it uses 87 octane empty or towing.
