My question is.... Was a surge protector in use in either of these two situations? If so exactly which ones so I can avoid that particular model.

In the case of a lightning strike a surge protector doesn’t do any good. A surge protector is designed to suppress a surge of electricity coming into the RV from the pedestal. Not lightning strikes. When a strike happens there is an energy pulse that happens all around. In my case there was no single entry point. The camper next to me took a direct strike and totaled his camper. Luckily, they were all in another relatives camper at the time. As for us, the hair stood up on all of our arms and heads, and we all got an instant headache. When you are near a strike, like we were, no surge protector is helping.

Being my trailer is under warranty I am hoping they take care of it. Another person posted about the same issue on another forum. Something is not right somewhere.

It was struck by lightning why would that be covered by warranty? Maybe your insurance

I had a Progressive surge protector on my trailer.

The closest lightning strike was up on a hill at least two football fields away. It would have had to go down the hill, go across a road and go up another hill. I checked with all of my fellow campers and they had no issues. I had no other issues except for the Compass Connect.

Ok… so after a month of going through and testing all the boards in the camper, and replacing them one by one, we are now on the last and final one. We ended up needing to replace the inside panel and all the relay boards underneath. Hoping when the last board get put in we are back up and running. I’ll report back.

Where are all of these boards at and what is the inside panel you are referring to?

I got a recall yesterday that says" units are missing a 50-amp over circuit protection at the point where the cables enter the trailer". The recall number is 24v-522.

Could this had contributed to my compass connect failure?

My dealer has figured out the control board was bad. The warranty has been approved and the parts are ordered for this and the recall I got last week.

I talked to my dealer this morning for an update. The control panel (not the unity board) will be shipped to them this week. He sounded pretty positive this will repair the issue. I questioned him about if it was the unity board and he said no it was the control panel in the trailer that went bad.

Keep your fingers crossed!!!

My trailer is repaired and ready for me to pick it up. I will pick it up on Monday and I will get more info on what happened. They said they changed my battery type setting to lithium on my converter also. I could not change it being it was under the stove and I could not reach it. I am taking that info with a grain of salt, but I am hoping they did. They also took care of a recall.
