Greetings all,

We currently have a 2018 GD 2500RL, towed by a 2015 Ford F-150, Super Cab, 4x4, 3.5 L Eco-Boost, with a trailering package. My hitch weight works out to about 1280 pounds.

Even though the 2500RL checks all the boxes on the trips we take, we are considering a move up to the 2670MK. I would like to have an F-250, but I don't care to shoulder the expense of a new truck at this point.

The 2670MK being longer and heavier than the 2500RL. Is there anyone out there who has used a similarly equipped F-150 to tow the 2670MK? What were your experiences and would you recommend it?

Thanks,

Chris

I have never weighed my truck and trailer at a scale. But according to my trailer specs the hitch weight is 480 pounds. I estimate it could be a 100 to 150 pounds higher with the equipment loaded in the trailer basement.

I am confused

In your first post you mention your hitch weight is 1280lbs

Is this your available payload number on your door sticker?

A 2670 is lot more trailer then the 2500. I’m confused about your current tongue weight, I would guess it somewhere between your first post of 1280lbs and your 3rd of around 600lb. I don’t I’d want to pull a 2670 with my Tundra.

My 2400 has a tw between 800-900 lbs. it tows very well behind my Sierra that has almost 1800 lbs payload. I would never attempt to haul a bigger trailer than my 2400. Last run across the scales and I was at limits

I looked at my initial post and it is confusing. The 1280 hitch weight is my estimate of maximum hitch weight for my vehicle based on 12% of maximum tow weight of my vehicle.

My estimate of current hitch weight with my 2500RL is 550 to 600 pounds. But I have never weighed my rig at a scale.

Other posts I am seeing on different sites are saying the same thing as you guys. That I'll need a larger truck if I want to move to a larger and heavier trailer.

Thanks for the advice.

That isn’t a good way to estimate available hitch weight
Each vehicle depending on options will have a wide range of payload limits

Best thing is to simply weigh it.

Glad to see you have decided against a 2670mk. I think that is a good decision

Loaded for camping, but with empty tanks, our 2670MK hitch weight is 910 lbs. Total trailer weight is 8100 lbs. (CAT scale)

Thanks
I’m going to find a local scale to go to and get accurate weights when we get the trailer out after winter is over.
I would at least suggest to just weigh the truck alone sometime. It will give you an idea of what cargo weight is left
Minus the actual weight with all people and gear and subtract that from the gvwr on your door pillar sticker

If you really want an F250 then upsize to the 2670. That will pretty much guarantee you get the F250.

Hi Chris, I had the same F-150 towing the 2670MK. No good. 7 mpg and to much trailer which felt unsafe. I purchased a RAM 2500 6.7 cummins. All good now.

Here are the results of the last weighing of my 2670MK 2020, using a 2018 F150xlt 3.5 eco boost with max tow. Even though I have no problems towing 55- 65 if I could do it all over again I would strongly consider F250. Sticker price on my F150 was $53000.00. Gas mileage when not towing was also a factor then.

I own a 2670MK and I can give you that answer from experience. If you stay away from the mountains your ok, but double the space between cars on the road.
I upgraded to a f250 and its night and day in towing, breaking, inclines and fuel efficiency when towing..well worth the upgrade in safety and enjoying the ride.0
