We have a Series 150
Model 295 RL 5th wheel. 2022. The counter surface laminate on the coffee bar is cracked and lifting off the surface. I have pictures. The area lifting is approximately 12 x 14 inches. Our dealer suggested making the fact known. We have had many tv's and this is our second Grand Design. Never seen anything like this. Manufacturer will not cover repair, No/ a happy camper. Any suggestions on this?

Please provide pictures. Have you tried contacting GD? Might be worth the try.

Thank you for the reply. Thanks also for your service. My husband is a Vietnam Vet. Yes, the dealership contacted GD for repair. The denied the claim. How can I post pictures on this site?

You likely will have better luck getting GD to cover this under good will if you call them direct and discuss it with them

From my limited experience it looks like something hot was placed on this surface (cracking pattern and location) Is it possible something like that happened?

The reason I ask is the contact adhesive used will release under heat and laminate will shrink. If GD does not help, the counter top material is easy to replace. Lots of U-tube videos. They probably denied the claim due to user error.
or...................
Contact a counter shop and have them replace with the material of your choice.

Now having said that contact the GD parts department (have vin handy) an see if they sell a replacement premade counter top or the matching material (get the manufacturer and name). I believe the parts department number is on the GD web page. It is a new service that they started last year.

Hope this helps

I thought the counters were solid surface.

Not in a 150 series. Too much $$$. GD does a lot of thermoform countertops in their lower end units. Take a peak under the edge of the counter and that will tell you what it is. It looks like something hot was sitting on it too often. Coffee pot or slow cooker?

I agree, it is to perfect of a ring to have just started to crack by defective material . Best option is to contact GD, you can look it up on their website but you have to jump through hoops first to get part numbers by signing up in the owners mygdrv section, have the VIN handy. I did find your coutertop but linking to it is useless because you have to log in to access that area. This page will get you to that part of the website https://www.granddesignrv.com/owners/mygdrv

On our 295RL, there is a laminate on a pressed board surface. Ours started to come up around the sink and luckily was able to glue it back down before it got bad.

If GD doesnt warranty it, I would not go back with their replacement top just to have it happen for whatever reason again. Would have a counter top replacement and/or refinishing company come in and overlay all of them. We did so in our last stick built to resemble granite and they ended up looking great! They could even take out all of the 20yr deformations and original seams to make it look brand new!

Thats our plan if we ever re-do ours.

Me too...until a can of food fell on it and cracked it this fall. I used scotch tape just to prevent water intrusion as it is right in front of the sink. Looking for a repair solution also...

Would superglue be an option? It will need sanded down if you want to do an overlay, but should prevent water damage. There are several different pliable caulk type products that come in a tube similar to a toothpaste tube. Only clear and white available as far as I know. I ran a bead of that in "clear" around the floor/wall meeting area in the bathroom, kitchen and entry areas in our trailer to prevent swelling of wall bottom if water accumulated there.

I was thinking along those lines for a repair. The crack is super thin, so I will need to lay a very thin bead down. Might not look factory, but it will seal out water...

Is there anything that could get hot underneath the damaged counter top? Possibly the water heater or some thing electrical? I agree with what others have said that it looks like heat may have damaged the top. If nothing was placed hot on top of the counter top, it is very possible that something underneater got too hot and caused the issue. Just a thought.

My furnace is below the kitchen counter and gets the area under there very hot. I replaced the "soda" lines to our kitchen sink, which had swollen and intermittently leaked, with stainless steel supply hoses like used in a sticks and bricks house. We now open the corner lower kitchen cabinet a bit to let some of the heat out on cold weather trips. When I first noticed the countertop warm on our first cold weather trip, I removed the kitchen drawers and found the hose for the underbelly was just laying loose blowing a lot of heat into the undercounter area. Putting that where it belonged helped tremendously. The "formica" like laminate overlay on the pressboard counters is very thin.

On the 295RL's there are no heat sources underneath the couter tops except the stove/oven which is mounted through an opening in the counter top.

We have a 2021 Imagine 2500 RL and experienced a similar problem with the surface of our dinette table. I found it cracked and pealing similar to what you are showing after being in storage (covered) for several months and not subject to any temperature extremes. I contacted Grand Design and sent them photos of the problem and they were very responsive and sent a replacement dinette table top which I attached to the base. Grand Design handled this well, although it makes me wonder if the kitchen counter top might develop a similar problem at some point. For now, we are good and have not had any significant issues with our trailer - we just need to use it more. Good luck.
