Members discussed a cracked part on a 2024 2500RL, initially suspected to be a plumbing vent but identified by experienced RVers as a mushroom cap for an attic vent. The original poster wondered if this issue should be handled under warranty or as a DIY repair. Most members advised against simply caulking the cracks, suggesting that a full replacement is the best long-term solution. Short-term caulking to prevent water intrusion was considered acceptable until a proper fix could be...

Thanks again . I have a call into the dealer so we’ll see . After taking these pics , I may just add a little caulk just to seal the cracks from any water . I won’t hide or cover over anything completely , just prevent any penetration that could cause more damage …… just to be on the safe side
Rv ownership will get very expensive if small jobs like this are left for the dealer to do
It is very important to inspect your roof very often for cracks like this
Broken cover. Must be replaced. Do not just caulk and expect it to hold, though some caulk to fill the gaps short term would be wise.
Looks like a perfect first DIY task. Get a new cover, get some butyl tape, get some self-leveling roof sealant. Use a plastic putty knife to gently peel up the existing calk, pull the screws out, pry the vent cover off. Do NOT rip a hole in the rubber (or PVC) roof.
Clean things up pretty well.
Put new butyl tape on the underside of the cover, press it in place on the roof. Put screws back in (you did align the holes right?). Snug, but not tight enough to break things. Then cover the screw heads and edge of the cover with self-leveling sealant.
Do this on a warm sunny day as much as you are able.
And I am surprised that is a 2024. I guess I need to be checking my new 2024 rig more often if that is how poorly the plastics age.
Has to have been stepped on. I would totally think it is easier to do myself than screw around with trying to get an appointment and deal with the average incompetent service department.

Fix it yourself ASAP, its not hard to do and if you take it to the dealership it might sit out in the weather like that for several weeks. Also when you get a new one get it in black...the black plastic lasts longer than white plastic due to UV characteristics in the plastic.
The top cap jut screws off to remove and access the rest of the vent.
