Getting tired of the heavy hitch we’ve been using for the past eight or so years… our Crosswing should be here in a few days…

As far as setting it up… instead of the rigamarole I’ve seen from Curt (park, unhook, measure, measure, subtract, measure…) I was thinking of measuring the height of my current hitch and transfer that measurement over to the Crosswing… pin height is pin height regardless of what hitch takes up the space between the ISBR and the friction plate… No? Am I missing something?

Here’s the method Curt supplies (which would be necessary if I wasn’t replacing a hitch that’s already the correct height)…

This video is for the gooseneck mount, I purchased the base rail model, but the gist of the setup is the same…

When I installed my Crosswing recently I knew what my B&W was setup for from my initial installation and set it up the same and all seemed to have worked out. I think what you are proposing should work as well.

So, do those who use the Crosswing like it? Are you using the chains? About ready to purchase one

Very happy with the Crosswing hitch. No chucking, no springs or complex part/systems, super simple and can not be screwed up when hitching (no need for a tug test as the pin/handle goes in or it doesn't). I'm not running chains and don't see a reason to.

I notice you have 22 Ram 3500. I have same except CTD. You have issue with nose up on the 5er?

Rob...you have issue with your 5er nose up?

Very slightly nose high with an empty trailer, loaded for camping and some water it sits level. I have 35'' tires making the truck 1" taller than stock. The hitch is set to the lowest position giving me 6" of clearance over my tonneau cover rail, if I removed the rail I would have 7". Curt recommends 5-6" min as I recall but its never been an issue with the short bed.

I am also looking at a GD...270BN. What type of pin box do they have? I thought I read somewhere that you needed some kind of wedges for Turning point and Sidewinder. The 2024 I am looking at has Turning point.

I don't know about the 270BN, we have a 340 RDS. I do know I've heard of 150 Series sitting nose high with the Ram HD. I assume the 150 pin is lower but not positive.

What type of pin box is on your 5er? If it is a Turning Point did you have to lock it in place?

Curt currently offers a $100 “mail-in” rebate on the Crosswing… etrailer has a price of $750 for the hitch…effectively making the price $650… the rebate offer ends at the end of August (IIRC)…

Saw that...I want the gooseneck version which is 899 with rebate.

Traditional pinbox, not Turning Point or similar. You would have to lock it out otherwise you would have 2 pivot points. The Crosswing for a gooseball connection has an 8" offset so you wouldn't need the Turning Point offset. The Crosswing for rails only has a 5" offset so that might be an issue with a short bed truck.

One other thing… when you fill out the rebate form, there is a caveat… the rebate doesn’t apply if the hitch was purchased through Amazon… I bought mine from etrailer.com so no issues for me…

Yes I have nose up now. If I could drop about 1 - 2" it would be pretty much perfect. I am thinking about loosening the bolts on the Morryde rubber pin box and seeing if the play in the mounting holes will let me push up the end of the pin box by the 1 - 2" that I need. I think if I get about 1" I should be good. Better anyway.

Ordered my Crosswind last night along with the Gooseball kit for the Ram.

Truck came with the Tri-fold tonneau bed cover, which I do not like and installed a roll up type cover. The frame for the roll up cover adds another 1" to the height of the bed sides. Will see how it all works when the hitch is in and 5th wheel purchased.

Thanks for all the info.

Back from a 2,000 mile trip with the Crosswing. Hitch worked great, except for the handle coming apart. Luckily I found all the parts in the bed of the truck.

I did find something a little strange and wanted to see if the other crosswing users had the same issue. As I am lowering the 5er to connect the hitch to the 5er the process wants to push back against the 5er. Causing the landing gear to slide backwards against the ground. I assume that would not be good for the landing gear.

The only way I found to stop the pushing motion against the 5er is to put the truck in neutral and let the truck be pushed forward, instead of pushing against the 5th wheel.

Any other users find the same thing?

I find exactly the same thing. I have been thinking of putting the truck in neutral too. I want to try not going fully back but jst far enough so the bottom pin slides into the hole. I also find that when I unhitch the lower pin pops out and then sits about 1 - 2" behind the hitch. Not sure if you see the same thing too.

Yes...mine does the same thing when unhitching.

I called Curt about it. Said it was normal. Guess I will continue putting truck in neutral. I will try not going back all the way also.
