Picked up my 5th wheel a week ago from the dealer and I asked them to unlock the pin box which they did.

After getting home and unhitching, I tried moving the pin box from side to side by hand, but I was not able to move it. I know I should have tried this before hitching up at the dealer, and it was definitely moving side to side when being towed.

My question is, should I be able to move the hitch from side to side without much effort after unhitching? Thanks

It’s pretty tight from the factory. If the lockout bolts aren’t in it I wouldn’t worry about it. Mine was very tight when I got the trailer. I have since done the maintenance on the bearing and it now moves much more freely. But when it was new it really didn’t move that easily. I actually played at the dealer with a bunch that were in a row. Several were unlocked and some wouldn’t budge and some turned very easily. Seems like it’s all over the place.

If you can move it easily by hand, it needs service. It is supposed to be tight.

Thanks. Good to know. I also sent an email to Lippert asking the same question. I will post what they say when I get a reply.

huntr70. You are absolutely correct. My reply from Lippert

"What you are describing regarding the turning point not being easily moveable even unhitched with the bolts removed is completely normal. If this was loose and moved freely by hand, it would indicate a possible bearing issue or excessive play".
