Looking to do the sheet metal repair behind the tire and new fender flare. All this got damaged after the rear tire blew. Got in touch with the Grand design dealer on these two items. I was told that the lower sheet metal that runs along the camper only can be sold in 15 foot lenghts in my color and will have to have a crate made up to ship it to my MI. dealer, even tho I am driving by there place in a few weeks and could pick it up. Shipping cost alone is $300 plus. The triple axle fender flare is another shipping cost of $100 and only is offered in white, not the ivory color I need. The sheet metal alone is $400, and the fender flare is $250. Anyone else have another route I could go?

Just call GD. They can retail parts to you and you at least save dealer markup. The flares are spendy, and GD no longer carries the ivory. So you are either replacing both to match or painting them to match. The ivory ones were ABS so there's some particular steps and material required for proper paint bond. Unfortunately, I doubt they'll accommodate picking up the parts. It was something you could work out long ago, but unlikely today.

Are you heading to the rally? If so they have a parts counter set up and may be able to get the items there. Call and talk to the service dept and see if they are still doing that. We have picked up parts at the rallies in the past. We didn't go last year so don't know if things have changed.

We could help a lot more if we knew the year and model trailer, but call Derek at Blue Compass (formerly Pharr RV) in Lubbock, TX. 806-765-6088[email protected] He's been super great about helping me get parts, when my local dealer is quoting stupid freight prices. I got in a time crunch when I was passing through Middlebury, so didn't get the sheet metal and fender trim damaged in a blowout at the factory and our home dealer was quoting $1000! freight for the same part for our rig. Sure, it was $200, but it is a big box. The gotcha is they only ship to businesses. Keep in mind, RV parks are businesses.

Oh. I re-read your message. If you are saying $650 total, delivered, that's not terrible. The dealers don't seem to be smart enough to have parts shipped in a trailer being delivered for sale, so shipping kills you.
