Hi all, picking up our new 2500RL next Monday and the dealer just hit me if we wanted any of these. Like buying a car I figure nope but any input? Being we will only be on the road a handful of times a year I dont think I will be adding anything.

1. Cornerstone Warranty Plan – Your coach comes with a 1 year limited warranty for manufacture defect only. Cornerstone Warranty is an exclusionary warranty plan for 5 years. Anything Grand Design chooses not to cover during or after that first year, Cornerstone will pick it up at a $200 deductible with any certified repair facility OR a $150 deductible if brought to ANY General RV Service Department. Additional benefits are Food, Lodging, SPOILED food (fridge repair) and Rental reimbursement if your trip is interrupted due to a repair. They also do on-site Service Calls which hardly any other company will do. It is cancellable for a refund if you trade your coach in or you can use it as resale value if you sell it privately. Having a Service Plan is so critical on an RV especially this size due to the amount of moving parts and the technology that comes with the coach.

2. Tyron Tire Bands – This is one of the most important items when it comes to safety and would be installed before you take delivery. Tyron Tire bands are devices that are placed inside the tire/wheel around the interior of the Coach’s wheel itself. This allows you to maintain control and full turning capabilities in the event of a tire blowout. These RV’s are very heavy and basically have a full apartment inside of them. A blowout in one of these is NOT the same as a simple blowout in a car/truck. When you have a blowout, the coach will remain in your control and you will be able to safely pull over and bring the coach to a stop without any major risk to the coach itself or your family. The video I have pasted here perfectly shows a Coach maintaining full control during a test blowout.

3. ECP Interior Exterior Coatings- ECP is an extremely effective product applied to the interior and exterior of your coach. The Exterior product prevents all fading, chalking, blistering, peeling, and insects. Heat damage and insects are brutal on our vehicles and if you pair that with the 1 to 2 coatings of Clear Coat on your RV; it only takes a few months for you to start to see some wear. It will also replace anything inside the coach that gets ripped, torn, or burned. Attached I have a picture of a customer had ECP applied to his coach. A few weeks later the storage compartment door broke and had to be replaced. Unfortunately the door was not protected and after just 4 months the door was completely yellow! We immediately took a picture and placed it in our book! It also goes on the inside where it prevents all spills, stains, and degradation to your interior. It will also replace anything inside the coach that gets ripped, torn, or burned. That is HUGE as no other company is offering this that I am aware of.

4. Tire and Wheel –This one is goes hand in hand with the Tyron Bands. The amount of weight on these tires/wheels is incredible and they cost a substantial amount to replace. You will receive UNLIMITED tire and/or rim replacement in the event of damage due to road hazards. This protection also covers any vehicle that is towing your travel trailer or any vehicle towing behind your motorhome. Basically, If you have a vehicle attached to your coach period, it is covered under this protection for unlimited claims.

5. CoachNet – Absolutely outstanding team out of Texas that is your 411 and 911 of everything RV. Think of them as a Full Concierge Service. Their biggest and #1 benefit is UNLIMITED mileage for towing at $0 cost. If you have a breakdown and the nearest Grand Design certified technician is 500 miles away, it does not matter. They will tow you to the nearest Grand Design at NO COST to you. I have seen them pay out an $18,000 towing bill for a customer who broke down in Montana. This is unheard of and is not offered by anyone else in the industry. They do not stop there, they also cover every vehicle in your house under the same unlimited mileage benefit. They cover your spouse and any children in the house aged 24 years and younger. They are there 24/7 for technical support with a REAL technician who will walk you through any issue. If they can’t help you they will have it towed to someone who can. This is RV Specific “AAA” type of coverage but on major steroids. When you are a member of CoachNet, you no longer call the individual warranty companies for your issues. You call CoachNet for EVERYTHING as they are you’re go-to guardian angels while at home or on the road. Truly an amazing service!!

6. ECO PRO – Interior Germ and Microbe elimination. This one could be beneficial but I leave this one up to you due to the COVID situation in the country. ECO PRO does eliminate 99.99% of all germs and microbes and keeps them eliminated for 5 years with fluids that are safe enough for human consumption. No hazardous chemicals or anything like that. It is used by the Tampa Bay Bucs in their stadium as well as the Kennedy Space Center.

Maybe number 5 CoachNet, but forget about the rest of them. They are designed for movement: movement of money from your pocket book to the dealer's hand.

1. Warranty plans are notorious about getting out of paying any money for repairs.
2. Tire bands are for motor coaches, i.e. motorhomes. Not for trailers.
3. Just a money grab from the dealer.
4. Tires do not cost a lot to replace, again this is referencing motorhomes. They can do damage when/if they blow, but from what it says, it only covers road hazard. Try to prove that your blowout was caused by road hazard.
5. CoachNet seems to be the least maligned of the various roadside assistant offerings.
6. Again, just a money grab from the dealer.

Well. I would say use caution. Some things to consider: how long do you intend to keep the RV? How handy are you at fixing things? How much does this stuff cost? What kind of camping will you be doing? Average yearly miles? Plan to store your rig indoors or outdoors? Likely hood of being near the dealer if you have a big failure like a slide not working? The tire thing and the microbe cleaner thing sound a bit shaky to me. Coach net has a good reputation and might be good if your insurance policy does not include towing.

Agree with everything stated above.

RE: CoachNet - purchase directly from CoachNet if you decide you want roadside assistance.

We have CoachNet and have used the roadside assistance service once. I'm pretty sure they will tow to the nearest facility to get your rig in a safe place, but I'm confident a 500 mile tow to a GD dealer is a bit of a fabrication. All of the small print and FAQs are on the CoachNet website. Don't rely on what the salesperson said.

Our service call was related to a blown turbo hose on my F350. Had the truck towed to the second closest Ford dealer (which was in our home town) since the closest was a tiny dealership with a tiny service dept in a tiny town in WV. Our coach was towed to the Lowe's across the street from the 2nd Ford dealer. Because I chose the location for the tow, which was 90 miles, versus the closest Ford dealer at 60 miles, CoachNet covered the costs of towing both the truck and rig up to the 60 miles. CoachNet found a campground near the Ford dealer in WV and said that is where they would tow the TT. We looked up reviews for the campground and said, "yeah, thanks, but we'll pass on that."

EDIT: RE: Tyron Bands - I recall reading about these and the Retroband several years ago when we were thinking about a diesel pusher. I thought the benefit was primarily for motorhomes and they were installed on the steer wheels only. The Tyrons are designed to keep the tire bead on the rim to maintain control; hence the reason for mounting on the steer wheels. The Retrobands also are designed to maintain the tire bead on the rim, but unlike the Tyrons, can be driven on for maybe a couple of miles or so. I think I have that right, but could be the other way around. I'm sure an interwebs search would turn up the correct answer. The only benefit I could see of either band on a trailer, especially a tandem or tri-axle, would be to prevent shredding of the tire which then will shred everything around it. Maybe. I could be wrong.

I do recall that the Tyron bands for the the size 365 tires on a pusher were > $1000/ea and those size rims/tires required 2/rim. Do they even make the bands for the tire sizes on a TT??

We went for the coatings, had them on our last trailer and they seemed to help. Wasn't that expensive to apply, perhaps just a peace-of-mind expense.

I am a former member of CoachNet. Years ago their service was outstanding and reasonably priced. Last year when I researched Roadside Assistance programs reports showed their service had deteriorated considerably, and was pretty much on par with the other RSA plans.

If anyone has more input on this I'd like to know as I currently don't have a plan other than "I'm on my own".

We skip it all. Dame like at auto dealers and furniture and electronics stores. All of these are like extended warranties. Dealers make a ton of profit on these.

When we bought our Solitude, we had already gotten pre-approval for financing through our credit union. When our salesman asked about financing we told him the rate we were quoted and he told us they couldn't beat it so no need to go to the finance dept. The finance dept staff were not happy since they didn't have any opportunity to upsell us warranties, coatings, etc...

Here is a list of all the stuff I purchased from the dealership when I bought my new one in Feb. 2019
