Two time looser
So the Missus and I are considering an upgrade to our 308-- going Solitude and 5er. Five miles from our home there is the Washington RV show at Evergreen Fairgrounds this weekend. We went Last night to "just look" at rigs. They had the Solitude we are interested in--- unfortunately it was represented by PE. As the salesman engaged I disclosed the fact PE had refused to service my Solitude and the chances of us buying from them unlikely as a result. He was a descent guy and said he was different and the dealership had undergone changes and despite my experience as only occurring a month ago--- he claimed all a distant past.
As we toured the rig and spoke with him, I was impressed with his professionalism and knowledge. After a few hours the question came up, "do you want to buy it?" My wife and I were already pre-approved for financing (just in case) and I figured, why not? Negotiations went smoothly and we arrived at a purchase and trade price everyone was happy with. It was late at this point so we said we would be back first thing in the AM to leave a deposit and get a PO for our bank .
When we arrived in the AM our salesman said, I really think I can beat your banks rate and term and we can wrap this today. We reluctantly said ok; normally we get pre approved so we don't have to hang out all day. The transaction goes more smoothly. However, with a chance to save money--- why not? Our salesman assured us we would only wait 30 minutes...
Two and a half hours later we are taken to finance and everything went to hell and the Paul Evert we know and love came to bare. First, the finance guy did not submit our app to a single bank--nor was he aware of our circumstances or that he was suppose to "better our rate." He had alternative plans....Before he did anything, he wanted us to sign a guarantee to purchase document that would prevent us from backing out of the deal under any circumstances, including if the financing came back unfavorable. We obviously refused to sign it. I have never seen this one page document before. It even quoted Washington state law claiming there is no rescission from any purchase obligation from that point forward.
What's worse, the finance guy had no idea what our pre approved rate / term was or if there was any finance product available that could beat it. In response to his ignorance, we just asked for the PO so we could go to our bank. The finance guy refused, saying if he did not originate the loan, he would give no PO.
At this point we got up and left. Clearly PE was hoping to benefit from financing. Often these dealers get you bought at 4.25% (for example) but turn and sell it to their customer at 5%. Guessing this guy had a similar strategy in mind.
We left. What a waste. We called the dealer who we bought the 308 and had a world class experience. He not only matched PE -- he threw in s hitch and installation.
Never. Never again.
GD needs to pull their flag and pass to someone else.
