Dexter 4400 bent axle replacement

I have the same trailer and also had a bent axle. Go direct to Dexter. They replaced both of my axles under warranty. Dexter also paid $270 labor for the replacement. The new axles came complete with loaded hubs and new springs. Feel free to contact me if you want to know the steps I had to take to complete this warranty. Tim 559-359-7882

I just dealt with both GD and Dexter about a bent axle. I asked GD for a report number, which they provided. I then contacted Dexter. They said fill out the warranty form online. Include photos of the axle ID tag, the VIN tag for the trailer and a picture of the damage. I included the heavy wear on the inside of the tire. In addition, I provided what the RV shop which is doing the axle replacement told me. In his opinion, he was more than 95% positive the axle was bent. I happen to be fortunate the shop has dealt with Dexter for years and he was their area repair guy until they changed how they handled things.

Dexter has shipped to the shop a new axle (complete with springs, brakes and bearings), which will be changed next week. I also ordered up a new set of shackles and wet bolts/brass bushings from Amazon (Morryde 2.5 inch) which can be returned if not needed. Jayson suggested doing that in case we needed them. Also, if the axle is not being returned, I thinking about saving the brake assemblies (as long as they are in decent shape) in case they're needed in the future.

Thank you for the last two posts. As a result I have submitted a claim to Dexter supported by a letter from the RV Service provider I have chosen and photos. We will see.

I am really happy to see that Dexter is providing good customer service. It makes we wonder how many axles leave their factory that are not in spec. Most of us don't ever question an axle until we see abnormal tire wear. I have personally worked on several axles that I believe left the factory out of spec. I hope that Dexter takes care of the OP.

Thanks to the advice on the forum I pursued a warranty claim with Dexter. In less than 24 hours they responded that they will send a complete axle replacement including springs. I still have to pay for installation labour and a new tire but I am OK with that.

If you are at all handy you can do the install yourself - not that hard. But if you do get it done use a commercial trailer place (a place that sell and services equipment trailers like PJ etc)- not the RV dealer.

If you have the room or capacity, keep your old hubs complete with the bearings for spares as well as the springs. I wouldn't bother with the brakes.
