Not sure that this is good news. I always felt Dish was a much more friendly company toward RVers and offered a convenient way via their app to change locations and get "local" TV stations.

Life goes on. The only constant is change.....

For $1 in equity and about 10 billion in debt.

I've always been a direct guy but I agree fully that Dish was better for RV'ers

This has been coming for what seems like forever. Other than eating your competition I don't understand the benefits. Their satellites and boxes will not work with each other. Both are really dying anyway. The satellite fleets are fairly old though Direct has a couple newer ones but neither are building any new ones anymore. I would imagine it will be business as usual for awhile. Though at some point one side will have to covert to the other for any real synergies and cost cutting to work.

Direct tv seems to be focusing on moving to streaming. I switched to DTV stream about a year ago and haven't looked back. Though signal and data limitations can be an issue for traveling, no boxes, no aiming a dish, no set up makes for an easier camp set up. We've made it work fine with phone and truck hotspots but we're not full time either.

My main concern is how does this affect my contract renewal with Dish in January?
I doubt at all. It will take awhile to get regulatory approval and close the deal. I doubt there will be any changes for awhile

Curious how this will pan out over time in service pricing and equipment retirement.... always had dish and even installed as a side gig for a few years too after the 10 footer sat dish era. Still like sat dish service over streaming - streaming just reminds me to much of pre-packaging pay days on the 10 footers of paying more for less. Sure, you get some channels you dont want, but you get some you do without having to stream each.

Also, we never do ANY service contracts with ISPs, SATcos, Telcos, etc. Month to month and own our equipment. IOO, it gives us more leverage when negotiating better pricing and moving on.

Had Dish at the last house we had along with the rv dish service. Moved to an area with too many trees for dish to work at the house, but we kept the mobile service. Never used it that much but for $35 a month, ok. A couple of months ago they went to $75 so drop kicked the service out the door.
With DTV & Dish merging & the debt, there is no way service cost is not going up. Heck I can stare at a fire or read a book for a lot less. JMHO

Well.... just got a large update to my Hopper3 last night. Apparently, they are already making changes. My MENU button brings up a different display and shows the same content as if accessing MYDish on the internet. Wonder if that has something to do with the merger? Anyone else notice this?

Just did a quick check on my Hopper, it came up with a ‘review the changes’ screen. I didn’t look into it as the Mrs is watching something now, but definitely a new screeen.

Not likely, The deal isn't expected to close on the 4th quarter 2025.
