Do you bring spare keys with you on the road?

We do!

Have a truck/trailer set up. I was thinking it would probably be a good idea to put a spare set of trailer keys in my truck glove box and was thinking maybe a spare truck key in one of those realtor style lockboxes clipped to something unoffending in the undercarriage.

Anyone do something similar or have a better plan(besides don't lose your damn keys!)? Do you keep your truck keys and trailer keys on the same key ring or keep them separate? Spares?

We're a couple. He has the keys to the truck and fifth wheel, and I keep another set in the wasteland of my huge purse

we have G*** S** Roadside
Assistance. Bought it for multiple years, valid for ALL our vehicles, including the RVs. It includes if you get locked out of car, truck, RV.

We have a RVLock keypad on our trailer. Just have to remember the code, not where I left my keys.
I think its just as secure as the cheap key lock it came with.

Just a heads-up, take some spare keys too. Sometimes the roadside assistance doesn't follow through. Always be prepared to "DIY". :)

You still pay for locksmith labor. Even with platinum plan. Good Sam is a great roadside assistance plan…until you need them.

Don't know what GS plan you have but I have locked myself out several times over the years and called GSRA and the sent someone out to unlock my vehicle. Twice in one week in a company work truck I locked myself out and had to call a locksmith myself... sent the paid bills in to GS and they reimbursed me in each situation.

I always have an extra set as well. But I also have an electronic lock so if I don’t have keys or key fob I can still input my code and open everything up. Always good to have an extra set just in case but somewhere that’s you can lockup Incase someone for some reason gets in your truck.

Wife and I both carry a full set of keys, house, truck, & RV on us. Extra RV keys are stashed on the RV for emergency use.

“ Vehicle Lockout assistance
If you have locked your keys in your vehicle, we will pay for a service provider to come to your location and gain entrance into your vehicle. You only pay for parts and labor.”

This section is identical under all four plans.

Very interesting topic and for those interested read on.

I have two complete set of trailer keys with all the hitch, cable, bike rack etcetera keys on it. One set has a FOB for the truck and the other not. The set without the FOB stays in the trailer as a spare emergency set. The other, with the FOB I use when on the road camping; it becomes my primary set.

Note: All my keys are on a two ring connect/disconnect thing. As an example...when I am hiking, biking or whatever....I can detach the accessory keys keeping only the FOB and trailer door keys with me leaving the others in the truck. When you consider all the keys you have for the trailer, hitch lock, trailer hitch lock, ems lock...etcetera sometimes it is convenient to just leave those in the truck. I carry a small Faraday pouch in the truck and depending where I am, after detaching the FOB part from the accessory keys I might carry those on my person in a Faraday pouch.

I have an extra partial set of trailer keys with no FOB in the truck.

I have my home set of keys with truck FOB stored in the trailer in a Faraday pouch.

I have hidden one trailer door entry key on the trailer. This gives me access to all spare keys in the event the truck evaporates in thin air.

When at the camp ground....all FOB keys are stored in a Faraday pouch. At home I have a Faraday box in the kitchen where all my keys are kept.

I also have CAA RV plus (Canada) that works with AAA. And my RV insurance also works with another provider Canada/US as well.

Note: Montreal and Toronto are vehicle theft cities in Canada with most shipped out via the port in Montreal. It is a big thing right now so I have taken some precautions. I use a club on the truck, it is tagged, and I have covered the vin with tape. This will deter but not prevent theft. I will be installing a WIFI alarm system on the trailer sometime this year.

If you are still reading then for the truck an OCB port lock will be my next thing.

A driver side door switch that will independently close the circuit to a separate alarm hooked directly to the battery in the engine compartment. My electronic buddy has rigged one that is hooked up to a small circuit that is turned on/off using a signal and I think he said bluetooth. He is protecting a 1970's era Trans Am that he beefed up. The one with the gold bird on the hood..

Multiple sets, multiple stashes

We each carry a set of trailer & vehicle key fobs & digital key door opening apps for the vehicle. Another set is stashed on the underside of the trailer in a magnetic box in case a neighbor at our main RV park calls when we are away from the trailer to say something is wrong with our trailer and they need to get in. Another set of trailer keys is stored at home in the liquor cabinet in case we die on the road and our son-in-law has to come get the trailer.
Its sounds like overkill, but we had a friend with a motorhome whose husband had a seizure and was helicopter airlifted 200 miles away with the only car keys in his pocket. Those keys got lost in the transfer of him to the hospital. His wife had to have the spare car keys left at home sent by next day air. A really nice neighbor gave her a ride to the hospital.

Forgot to mention --look up S carabiners on Amazon. A really easy way to connect /disconnect groups of keys.

I have always been a little paranoid about locking myself out when in the middle of nowhere. We ended up going with the RV doorlocks with the combo. I also have extra trailer keys in the truck and extra truck keys in the trailer. I put a magnetic key holder in a hard to reach place outside that has a key to one of the storage compartments. In that storage compartment I have a key hidden that fits the door. Just one more step to keep honest people honest in case they find the outside key. With this system it is great to be able to carry just a truck key when going somewhere.

Wow, you need to move out west! I leave the keys in my unlocked vehicles in an unlocked garage, never been a problem.

We each have truck keys. RV/Locks on entry and baggage doors. Inside truck and rv are spare keys for rv, front storage compartment, Hughs Watchdog and various other locks used to secure things in truck bed or outside of rv.
