Door Props

We are looking at the Solitude 379FL and noticed that with the awning down, the front door cannot open all the way flush with the side of the camper. Although that is understandable due to the awning support arm there is no shock/strut (sorry I haven't a clue what they are called) or hook to keep the door open when in the half open position. Does anyone have any DIY solutions or can a shock/strut be added?

We had a gas strut on the door of our last camper as it had a similar issue with the door location and the awning arm. The integrity of the mounting of that strut to the side of the camper is critical as it takes lots of abuse...ours eventually detached and I re-mounted it by bolting it through the door frame. You'd be best to discuss it with GD customer Service for some options.

Hiya LegalLass1 and welcome to the forums. The 379 is a great floorplan. Good luck with your search for the right RV for you :)

I went on line to Camping World and purchased a steel 45 degree hold open latch., cut it and welded a 8" extention on it using 1/4" round rod. I mounted it next to the black plastic one that holds the door open when the awning is not out. It works great.
Someday I will get around to painting it black to match the others.
