I actually just wanted to post this as an FYI to others.

We arrived at the coast to camp for the weekend plus. We got all set up, did the normal things. We were on a 50 amp site and plugged in. . Later we discovered we had no hot water. So I turned it to gas and all was well. The weather which was warm in the day, we had the main air on. Later on in the day we discovered our second air was not working. During the night the weather got rather cold. The next morning I turned on our electric fireplace and found it not to be working. So I click on the heat for gas and my refrigerator goes into low "DC mode" and beeping. Everything was working on a weekend trip a month ago. So I decided "maybe" it was probably my 50 amp service here. So i take my cord and plug it in to a vacant spot, and still the same if not worse. Okay, now i am frustrated. I go to my female end of my cord and noticed my collar ring was broke and my plug was about a quarter of the way out.

I didn't bring all the tools that I carry when going cross country. just the basic tools and I found my black electrical tape and wrapped it over my collar. I pushed the cord in and made a better connection.

A long story short. That plastic collar ring had broke and i was not making good contact. My temporary fix with the black tape worked and now the things that hadn't worked before are now working.

Now I have ordered two of the locking collars. One to replace and a spare. Like I said, This was an FYI maybe it could help others if any of these things occur.

It sounds to me like you did not plug into the trailer correctly. With a 50A service for the RVs, it is a twist-lock type plug and after you push the plug into the receptacle on the trailer, you are supposed to turn it Clockwise (as you are looking at it) until it stops turning. Then and only then, do you use the screw on collar to "lock" everything in place. The reason I say this is because you did not mention plugging in and then twisting the plug at the trailer. If you did do this, remember, it's not terrible difficult to cross thread those locking rings that screw on. Check it out and let us know.

Metal replacement rings available also.

Do you happen to know where you have seen the metal ring? I loathe that cheap plastic ring which does absolutely nothing to hold the plug on ours. I don't find a metal version though...

Furrion F50RNG-SS 50A Replacement Ring

Unavailable at Amazon but maybe Furrion or ?? has them

I did find a Furrion ring that appears to be metal but for 50amp. I don't see one for 30amp. Maybe us peasants don't deserve the higher quality stuff. :p

I agree with you 100 %. I loathe those cheap plastic rings. I am going to order the one on E trailer.

This from Furrion's website, mentions "Made with zinc-alloy metal material.":

Be very careful when screwing on a metal ring. Threads are so fine that they cross thread easilyand will chew up the threads on the trailer side. I know from experience that even the plastic ones can bugger up the threads (my reflection came to me that way lol).

Hmm. As I was looking closer at my issue today I realized that it might actually be the threads that are messed up on the trailer side and not the ring after all. I've been pulling the connector clockwise so it's tight and then use a velcro strap to hold it angled and pulling up on the ladder and that seems to keep a good connection. Might have to just keep doing that until I decide this fall if I want to spend lots more on one of those fancy connections (can't recall the name off the top of my head now).

How far do you have to turn your twist-lock plug before it quits turning, before using the collar to lock it in? Just checking to see if mine is set up the same way.
