A member shared a memorable June family RV trip covering roughly 5,000 miles from south of Houston through Yellowstone and the Southwest, beginning with a storm-shelter interruption in Amarillo and a scenic stop at Curt Gowdy State Park in Wyoming. Staying at Fishing Bridge RV Park, the family explored Yellowstone’s major sights, saw black bears daily and a grizzly, and wished for more time; a park employee suggested early outings, a midday RV break, and returning around 3 or 4 p.m. to...

My family took a summer to Yellowstone back in June from south of Houston area. I drove around 5000 miles during this tris and made a ton of memories with my wife and kids. We headed to Amarillo first and stayed the night. That night was quite eventful had to wake the kids and head to a storm shelter do to high winds. The next morning we left and headed to Curt Gowdy state park in WY. This was a beautiful park wish I had a couple nights there. Then it was off to Yellowstone NP. We stayed at Fishing Bridge RV park in the NP. Nice park very busy.

At Yellowstone we hit all the popular stops over multiple days. We definitely needed more time so much to see. I had a RV park employee tell us to go out early in the morning come back to RV for lunch and break and go back out again around 3 or 4. This is because most people stay outside the park and don't come it till 9ish and leave around 3 or 4. We saw so much wildlife while there and the thermals. We saw black bears everyday the were there plus got to see a Grizzly.

After Yellowstone we left and went to Grand Teton NP stayed down in Alpine Wyoming. GTNP was beautiful but not my cup of tea. Way too many people. I think there was less folks at Yellowstone then GT.

After a few nights in Alpine we left for Vernal Utah for Dinosaur national monument. Very cool place. Lots of Dino bones and pictographs.

Then we headed to Cortez Co. for a overnight stay and visited Four Corners.

After the overnight we went down to Carrizozo to stay at Valley of Fires Rec area. While in the area we went to White Sands NP and did some sand boarding and also went to see the largest pistachio in the world. LOL. It was pretty wild to see the signs about missile testing in the area. But cool nonetheless.

We then left Vally of the fires rec area and headed to Balmorhea SP in Texas. This was a cool little state park and water was very refreshing after being is the desert.

We had planned on staying 2 nights there but made the didecision to leave early and drive to Fredericksburg Tx to break our final drive up. Stayed at a newer camp ground Skye RV resort. Lots of big deer in the campground.

Then left for home. Made it home in time to eat at our favorite tex-me restaurant for lunch. And was able to get truck and RV unloaded before darks.

And for those that enjoy cars we got to see some pretty cool cars. Plus final drive miles. I drove it all since my wife will not drive my truck.
