Fast, Secure, Wifi use.

Just about to head out on first long trip with 2021 RLS and looking for ideas on how to use a secure wifi for day to day use with streaming in RV parks ?

Any advice would be helpful.

How IT savvy are you? If you are, I would highly recommend a Netgate firewall. If not, most "secure" network access requires a fair bit of knowledge. The other thing is a lot of RV parks do not allow streaming.

Maybe just get a Hawking Technology repeater. Connect the repeater to the campground (or any) public WiFi, retransmit on your private network. Pretty simple to set up and it all stays inside your RV.

The other nice thing about your own repeater is that you can set up the WiFi hotspot one time on all your devices so you only have to configure the repeater each time you get to a new campground.

fwiw.... I have pretty much had mostly horrible experiences trying to stream from a campgrounds WiFi. Some work sometimes, most don't. And I use a directional MIMO antenna/router system to pull in weak signals. But it isn't about signal strength most of the time, it's about the campground's bandwidth (or lack thereof...).

If find someplace you can stream over wifi, let us know. They are very rare.

Honestly, you are going to be better off getting a cellular hotspot and going that route. It's expensive, but usually better than a park's WiFi.

As others have said, don't count on park Wi-Fi. At best, it has limited bandwidth; at worst the park states that their Wi-Fi is only for checking email, etc., and prohibits streaming. A good MiFi hot-spot with a large data plan (think 2GB/hour for HD streaming) is the best way to go.

As Second Chance noted, never count on much from WiFi for most places. If you are really lucky, you'll have enough to do light web browsing. And maybe only in the wee hours of the morning before anyone else gets up. For streaming replacement, investigate Netflix, Amazon Prime, etc. that will let you download shows to a PC while at home. Then connect the laptop (or whatever) to the TV via an HDMI cable. Or haunt used media places for gently used DVD's (used bookstores, etc.).
