Has anyone had experience with fender wells add-ons that protect the trailer in case of a blowout? They look like the ones above the tires on a truck. I had a blowout and was lucky only to have minor damage which included a ruptured gas line.The wells are pocket change compared to the damage that can be done. Thank you!
 
I can't find the thread right now, but one of the former moderators used metal sheeting to armor the underside of the slides on his Reflection in case of a catastrophic tire failure. Others have done so as well.

BTW, why don't you create a signature with your rig info in it? That way we'll know what line and model you have when you post or ask questions. You can do this by going to:

Forum Actions (on menu bar) -> Edit Profile -> Edit Signature (under My Settings on the left)

I took aluminum roof flashing from Home Depot and installed it above tires. You can get it in different widths and cut it to size you need. I installed it with tires on, hindsight I would have removed tires to make it easier. Used short sheet metal screws.
Had blowout with a China bomb tire(installed 5 Goodyear Endurance tires when I got to campground) and the metal protected underside from damage. You can see witness marks where blown tire rubbed against metal but it stayed in place and protected black material underneath.
Things to consider:
1. Width of aluminum flashing to buy.
2. Length of sheet metal screws - install about every 4 to 6 inches. You don't want screws to go through to other side of flooring; I think I used 1/2 inch screws. If you don't put enough screws in and have blowout it will rip aluminum flashing loose.
3. Remove tire to make installation easier.
 
I was shocked to see my 311 has some type of metal sheeting directly above the tires. Came like this from the factory, my Momentum had nothing like that.

Someone shared sometime ago I think on this forum or maybe the other, that GDRV did start adding these to some or possibly all models. Possibly Steve [MENTION=331]huntr70[/MENTION] will chime in and enlighten us "animals !":llama:

It was all in good fun...LOL.

Honestly, I would have to go look at one. I don't know what exactly they are doing at the moment. I thought they were putting metal fenders on the side that had the LP lines, but not sure if they are doing both sides.

Actually, I can't even go look, I don't have a 311 right now. Next 5 coming in are sold already.
 
Both sides are done on mine. Dont mind the dirt, roads were wet when it came home and there has been too much snow to wash it yet. 20210312_171052.jpg20210312_171021.jpg

onlinemetals.com and order 5052 aluminum sheet. I used 1/8” (probably overkill) cut to custom size for the area you want to protect and secured with 1/2”stainless sheet metal screws. Very reasonable prices.
 
This is similar to what I installed but used Aluminum roof flashing from Home Depot. It withstood a tire blow out and stayed in place, you can see witness marks from tire.
