Fifth Wheel Slider or Not

I am looking at purchasing a Reflection 150 295RL fifth wheel. I have a 2018 GMC Sierra Denali 2500 HD with diesel, it is a standard bed (6 ft I believe).

With the Reflection 150 series they advertise that you don’t need a slider but I am looking for someone with real world experience. I have years of towing travel trailers but this will be my first fifth wheel.

Also what brand etc fifth wheel do you recommend that won’t be too heavy for me to remove from the truck, and I want one that leaves minimal hardware when removed. I have had a fusion in my back so my lifting ability has been degraded.

Thank you
Tim

We have a 2015 Reflection 323BHS, and our tow vehicle is a 2003 F250 crewcab with the last of the 7.3 diesels. Our maximum fifth wheel towing capability is 13,200 lbs. And dry weight of our 36' fifth wheel with 4 sliders is 11,000 lbs. and it has a 2,000 lb. kingpin weight.

Stay under those weights approximately and you'll be okay with your 2500 truck.

And if you still want to travel and you have physical limitations, the fifth wheels are easier to setup and move than travel trailers.

With your limited payload you will need to have the lightest hitch available
Even with that you will exceed the gvwr of your truck

You won't need a slider hitch...I have a 2017 gmc 2500 6 ft bed towing a 303 5th wheel and don't have any problems. I have an Andersen steel rail mount hitch which is lightweight. Andersen also makes an aluminum hitch that mounts to a gooseball mount.

You don't need a slider with a 150 Series, they use the Turning Point hitch for the most clearance.

Any fixed hitch will work.

Andersen hitches won't work with the Turning Point unless you use the lock out bolts.

Just to emphasize... this^^^.

Our bed is 6’ 9”. We pull a 303RLS. Our dealer recommended the PullRite slider. We may have been able to get away with a standard hitch, but the peace of mind was with the extra dollars to us.

Ooops...I forgot about the turning point hitch being on the 150 series

We have a 2021 Reflection 295RL and pull it with a 2021 Ford F-150 with the 5 1/2 ft box. I did not get a slider hitch and have been over some uneven ground without a problem. 90 degree turns, not a problem. We have the 5.0 gas w/ heavy duty towing package and love the combination.

We have a 303 and use the aluminum Andersen. We have it in the “short” position, with the hitch portion facing rearward. It clears the cab of our F-350 without any problems. It’s light (about 40 pounds) and I store it hanging on a nail on my garage wall, if I want the truck bed clear for another task. It mounts to a goose-neck style ball which can also be removed and covered with a plastic plug.

I can make a fairly tight turn, but prefer to simply pull up and straighten things out, so as to put less stress on the trailer suspension. I’ve heard too many tales of broken spring hangers to be overly optimistic about continued tight backing turns.
