I would have purchased a less expensive back up camera than the Furrion Vision S except they are giving free side cameras. Mounting the side cameras has become a problem. It’s a situation of Grand Designs 3D Tetris meets Furrion’s 3D Tetris. One must first mount the Side Marker Light and then slide the camera into it and bolt the two together. Can’t just use the existing Side Marker hole, the camera would overlap the basement door. Can’t cut a new hole further toward the front of the trailer, nor can see the edge of a frame piece in the edge of the existing hole. Long story short, it must be mounted higher than the basement door trim. Problem being, I don’t know if there is anything in the wall where I want to mount it.

Now to the question. If I buy a stud finder that says it shows the location of metal studs should that locate the frame structure hidden inside the wall?

Which coach do you have? You might find a call to GD customer service with your VIN helpful. They may be able to guide you on where to mount your side cameras.

You want an electronic type, not magnetic. They locate by measuring a change in density so yes, it will locate an aluminum stud. Bosch makes a good one but they are proud of their product. You can find less costly models at your Big Box stores, just look for one that has a deep scan mode.

Thanks, that’s what I got. I was also able to get a drawing from Mike at GD which confirmed my findings measure twice, cut (or in this case drill) once.
