Odd, my chrome the circle goes away once read. In the Samsung browser the red circle is on the upper left of the bell. The only consistant is there is a circle with a number
OK... I think we may be talking about different circles/dots. The overall notification dot by the bell does go away. I'm talking about the little read/unread circle/dot by each individual notification.

There is also a little colored circle/dot at the bottom right of the alert (kinda like another social media platform we won't mention here). If that is still a solid color (blue-gray in my color scheme), you can click on it to mark it read. It will then turn to a clear circle.

Thanks for that info Rob......A must have overlooked that and never noticed it until you mentioned it. (y)

Hello. I can see people responded to my posts under the alerts icon. But when I read them, they stay in the list. Is there any way to have it remove from the list once the response (or thread) is viewed or manually remove them from the alerts list? Just trying to figure out the best way to keep track of responses I have not read yet vs those I have. Thanks!
I'll alert our admin. It is likely not working like we'd all like it to work. We'll see.

I think the list should clear. But I'm not sure that when you select "Show All" that those will go away. At least I hope not so I can always go there and refer to some stuff I'l like to go back to.

oh - and fwiw.... on Safari the unread ones are bold and the ones that are read are not bold. And the little round dot/circle when moused on is either solid (unread) or not filled in (read); and it can be selected to toggle the read/unread condition.

When you click on the "bell" icon which is alerts and the drop down list appears, the alerts that have NOT been read by you will be black print with a gray background. Once you click on it, and then go back to it later, it is still black print, but the background is White instead of gray. Does that help?
Thanks @triplethreat. I do only use the forum on my laptop and now I see the unread alerts have a very light gray shading and the read items are white. That does help. I liked how I could go into my list before and they just disappeared once I read them, but this works fine too. Also, just realized I posted my question in the wrong place. This looks like it was intended for admins to post forum 101's, not for questions which I see is a different location. I won't take it personally if anyone want to delete or move all these question related posts. Thanks again!
